About the Album

The MonaLisa Twins’ much anticipated follow-up original record to their debut album “When We’re Together”. 5 years have passed since the release of original material while the Twins played countless shows all over Europe, moved their residence to England, and learned some important life lessons. In other words … they lived life.

In comparison to their first album, which was still written in their teens, ORANGE gives a more mature, sometimes satirical, yet overall still light-hearted approach to topics we all deal with. Love, community, doubt, the past and future and the generally unsettling direction society seems to be taking.

While staying true to their passion for melodic, quirky songwriting, plenty of harmonies, a very “60s” sound and twangy guitar licks, this album branches out into new territories and incorporates very psychedelic but also earthy, bluesy, sometimes even jazzy tones. Built upon everything you loved about their debut album, you can expect to hear a more experimental and very tongue-in-cheek side of the MonaLisa Twins.

This is another great album! I recently bought 4 more albums from MonaLisa and I enjoy them all! I’m now up to 146 of their songs (or covers) on my iPhone, and I think I was only able to narrow my ‘MLT favorites’ playlist down to about 128, which I play on random shuffle and greatly enjoy. There are more than a few songs on Orange that I had not heard on their YouTube channel, yet could easily be hit singles. So I’m always pleasantly surprised 🙂

Hi, it’s my wife who made me discover the band and I am always enchanted with your art ! I usualy listen to your duo sessions on YouTube and didn’t think to buy your album. With the promotion and the fact that I wanted to encurage you, I bought the Download of the ORANGE album (because I don’t nead the CD on my iPod) and I am eaven more enchanted. The style of your original studio recording with a touch of oldies…. Be shour that I am waiyting to buy the download of your upcoming Why ? album. Thank you and don’t give up 😉

I am 68, Learning to play the guitar since the beginning of the pandemic with a 100$ fender. I love the album, and can appreciate it that much more since I understand how hard it can be to play the guitar well. You are so good and you are superb. By the way, I listen to this album every time I drive in my car.

Orange really shows talent in developing and performing your own original music. Wonderful songs. Glad we discovered Mona and Lisa.

With Liverpool now in lockdown, please stay safe & carry on working on the new album, we are all looking forward to it. What can I say about the existing body of work that hasn’t already been said. Love the music, love the videos. Keep up the good work, and thank you.

My wife and I love your music and videos. We like the way you present yourselves…”They’re cute and adorable”, I agree with my wife. Your music is bright and very enjoyable. We especially enjoy your original works. You are a breath of fresh air in an ever increasing world of crappy music.

Keep up the great music…and stay groovy.

Dear Mona and Lisa, thanks for a light and positive atmosphere that you create with your music, for your loving and cheerful presence. Hope you carry your talent and productivity for many years to come.

  14. Andrew Dragh (verified owner)

Soft and calming music. It is good to know that the MLT can both put up a big Rocknroll show and also create a relaxing atmosphere with their beautiful vocals.

I really love the new Orange album! Especially “Waiting for the Waiter! The video is amazaazing!! For a second there I thought John S. was your Dad…I love him too! Great job guys!! T Craig Marksbury 22 Sept, 2020

The “Orange” album was a breath of fresh air for me given what most current bands issue as new music. The current trends are similar and seem almost cookie cutter and over processed.

In contrast, the music on this album is clean with the music and voices standing on their own without auto-tune or many of the current processes that recording artists use today.

That gives this music an almost retro sound that made music of the 1960s, and to some extent, the 1970s some of the best ever recorded.

The songs on the album range from sentimental, like Still A Friend Of Mine, to fun and playful. Although the sentimental songs are good, I prefer the fun ones like Club 27 and the No More Worries Company, and the snarky Waiting for the Waiter, which I have done plenty of times.

There was some experimentation with The Future using broadcast clips. I didn’t really get it, but that could my own denseness.

Once Upon A Time was very ’60s reminiscent of Time of the Season and Across the Universe. It was kind of a look back at the way it was.

There were also some “girl group” sounds like Close To You and That’s Life. Sweet Lorraine seemed to me to be a hybrid of a “girl group” song and a ’60s ballad.

All in all, I enjoyed the album and have included it in my playlist to listen to on a regular basis. Keep up the good work!

The MonaLisa Twins are wonderfully sassy and fun. I play their music over and over and never tire of it! I was born in 1947 and spent my adolescence basking in the music of the Beatles, the Beachboys (I grew up in Los Angeles) and all the Greats of those years. What a gift the ML Twins are giving everyone: a thorough musical drenching of sheer joy! Thank you, Mona; thank you, Lisa!

  17. Bruce

These girls are fantastic and the album is great. Love the harmonies an album to be proud of ladies. I have only just discovered these talented ladies. I teach music so I know a little about just how good they are. Well bone your a credit to the industry.

  18. Eric Bouwsma (verified owner)

Apart from the beautifull voices and instumentalisation it’s music thats makes you happy. I ordered all your albums at once!

  19. George Yon (verified owner)

I have enjoyed your videos ever since I found them on youtube. You are doing a great job, love all the music, keep the music coming!!

  20. Steven (verified owner)

As someone whose favorite musical decade is the 60’s, I find Mona’s and Lisa’s vocals and music to be just my cup of tea! The twins are absolutely groovy!

  21. Hadley P. (verified owner)

These girls not only have musical ability but they have artistic quality that reminds me so much of the “fun” of the 60’s and 70’s style music. Their Beatles covers are phenomenal and refreshing, not simple note for note rehashed mimics. It’s “girls” singing a guy band’s songs. Their music videos are clever, catchy and creative. I love the “Hey, Waiter” package (music & video) featuring John Sebastian. Now THAT’S a huge endorsement right there! “Still a Friend of Mine” is captivating. So polished and classy. You go, girls. I’m a fan!!

  22. Wolf Klauschie (verified owner)

This is just so good and happy!

  23. Gord (verified owner)

I have listened to this cd a few times after I purchased it, just the other day. I am totally impressed. Such great powerful voices, Easily the best female band I have ever heard, and quite likely the most talented musicians as well. This is Austria’s greatest export!!!

  24. David (verified owner)

I really enjoyed the whole album, as others have said well played and sung with very good production. The Beatle references stand out and I like the way you have emulated them in that you borrow from them just as they borrowed from the music of their parents and their youth. I also very much enjoy the covers you do whch demonstrate the love and respect you have for that music. I hope my small contributions help and hope to see you live one day down in south eastern France or near the Italian border

  25. David (verified owner)

I really like this album . One thing I appreciate about your music is that it is clearly influenced by and is a celebration of the past but it also sounds fresh, modern and original. I think thats particularly true about this album. Also, as in the rest of your work your vocals here are gorgeous and your music sounds so professional and slick yet unpretentious and fun. You are such suburb musicians and your love of creating and performing music really shines through on this album.

Normally I don’t like over produced albums.I like music that is sparse, where talent like yours is better revealed. But as a musician if you want to grow you have to experiment. You have to try new things. Or as another great artist put it “ He not busy being born is busy dying” The opening track of the album sets the mood and flavour of the album wonderfully; a through back to the concept albums of the 60s.

Great irony and fun in “ No More Worries Company” You don’t hear “ Don’t think for yourself” very often.

Wonderful homage to the 60’s in “ Once Upon A Time”. Great harmonica.

“ Close To You” – Great vocals, nice guitar. Bittersweet nostalgia. “ Nothing ever lasts forever, my oh my” indeed.

“Its All Right” – again great vocals and harmonizing. I like the way you play off each other in this song.

“ Waiting For the Waiter” – my favourite. Sultry, seductive vocals. Sung like you really mean it. Again great harmonica.

“In It For Love” – Catchy tune. Again very nice vocals, guitar and lyrics. Old time song but timeless.

“Count On Me” – Great lyrics. Sung and preformed beautifully.

“‘Sweet Lorraine” – Again, Catchy tune; well sung with sensitivity. Sounds like old fashioned tune but timeless at the same time. Nice contrast to the last song. Love does not work out well for everyone.

“Thats Life” – Another standout song. Fun and infectious. Full of love & romance but at the same time “you better not bet that it’s always coming up roses”

“Club 27” Nice contrast from the rest of the songs. Great guitar. Rockier, more edge. Celebratory ode to Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison & others but recognizing the price they paid

    “Still A Friend Of Mine”
Gorgeous song. beautiful vocals full of emotion. great lyrics from a confident songwriter . I wonder who are you talking about? Another fellow artist? Some one who tried to show us the truth who didn’t care about being a star but had some problems?

I wondered why you chose to call your album “Orange” so I looked up what the colour meant.
Orange is associated with joy, creativity, freedom, fascination, happiness, fun etc.. Its stimulating and vibrant.
Now I understand why you chose to call it that.

These girls are amazing! I raised three Daughters myself and two play the guitar well.

  26. Rick Duncan (verified owner)

Being a musician and a child of the 60’s, you young women are the daughters I wish I’d had. I’m actually jealous of your DAD! You have restored my faith that someone youthful today is reviving and furthering great music. Your songs are new, fresh, varied, but never forgetting. the past. I love your musicianship, arrangment sense and unbridled enthusiasm. I’m a huge beatle fan and have been remaking them also…………http://duncansong.sanitycruz.com/the-beatles-rick-duncan/

  27. Robert Fendt (verified owner)

Absolutely love this album listened to a couple of tracks on the MLT Facebook page this past weekend and was blown away purchased immediately, listened to the whole album amazing went straight back bought the first album and also joined the MLT Club. What a fantastic choice of songs to go with a superb talent. Can’t believe I only found you girls and your music this weekend. Brilliant x

  28. Frank Cooke (verified owner)

I did not think I would enjoy the whole album, but I am glad i bought it and look forward to watching you climb to the dizzy hights in music girls x

  29. Rick (verified owner)

Bought on the strength of ‘still a friend of mine’ and Beatles covers. It’s one of those songs I’m playing many times over, exquisite and the guitar work is great on its own, whole production great. Albums different, even innovative, let’s have more of this soon, love it

  30. Greg Dent (verified owner)

I’m late to the party. Just discovered you ladies in January, and I bought Orange and never listened to it because I just wanted to watch your compelling videos and see, and I hope it’s allowed for me to say this, and see your beautiful faces. The location productions, the studio productions, and the stage performances—all just great, even when the lighting was bad in some venues. There has been music I’ve liked over past 50 years, but I can’t think of anything since the Beatles that I’ve gotten excited about like you two. I have to keep telling myself it’s perfectly normal to feel this way about favorite movie stars or athletes or musicians. Right?

Then today, I thought I’d rest my eyes and just listen to non-video music, and I put on the gorgeous Close to You and then the whimsically serious No More Worries Company, and they’re just full of little surprises—new instruments, more instruments and more voices, melody variations, instrumental breaks that develop (like the keyboards in No More Worries and guitar breaks and little flourishes everywhere) …. I could go on, but it’s just brilliant, dazzling stuff, not to mention the great, great song ideas and executions. And the exquisite precision in the singing and playing. I would love to see you on American (like me) television—Saturday Night Live or something—except that you’d need multiple clones of yourselves to do all the parts. You should be rich and more famous except that might break up the charm of your being, or seeming to be, so completely unaffected and unfancy and normal.

    Well, I hope that’s enough.

Really! Orange is a great record! I expected it to be good, but this is way, way beyond that.

  31. John Gratton (verified owner)

No question these two can sing, and their harmonies are masterful, dare I say, angelic. It pleases me how their voices have matured as they have aged. What really impresses me, though, is the strength and variety of their lyrics. Come for the great music and fabulous vocals, stay for the poetry. Orange is interesting, start to finish, but especially In It for Love, Still a Friend of Mine, That’s Life, and It’s Alright.

  32. John Goodare (verified owner)

The album is a mix of quirky, delightful songs with tight harmonies and wonderful lyrics. So glad I clicked the link to buy them. When is your next album of originals coming out?

  33. Philippe Cabay (verified owner)

I just love your music, great guitar playing and superb Harmonies. it takes me back in those times when music was real. a great breath offers air.Thank you!

  34. Damon Glassmoyer (verified owner)

Pulls the best of the classic ’60s styles into the present…and I CANNOT get “That’s Life” out of my head…it’s fab!

  35. Larry Ayers (verified owner)

I love the vocal harmonies on your recordings. The guitar-playing, both on Strat and lap steel, is true to the traditions established back in the 1960s. I do have one suggestion. Include the videos with the album downloads!

  36. Henrik Nielsen (verified owner)

Love that is your own music – that’s life is a hit – looking forward for more.

  37. Uwe Stein (verified owner)

It’s not easy to find the right words to describe this product. To hear these wonderful voices and music makes all days much better. I love it!!!

  38. Tony (verified owner)

It’s always fun to find a song or two that you like right off the bat, so you end up buying the album. Orange for me was that album, and I couldn’t be happier, the more I listen to all the songs the more a like them all. The songwriting is superb and the both Mona & Lisa have great voices to carry them through. So I’m looking forward to their next album & see what new things these very talented young musicians come up with. With that I’ll quote something George Harrison once said, “Well Done”.

  39. Jung Roe (verified owner)

I recall when this album came out on Sept 29 2017 after much anticipation all summer leading up to it’s release. MonaLisa Twins finally released the album, and all their fans who placed early orders weeks in advance, received the Orange album download link via email, while our CDs and Vinyls were sent in the mail weeks earlier to arrive on our door steps for the Sept 29th release date. What incredible coordination and planning as many received them just in time! At 23 minutes past the stroke of midnight UK time Sept 29th 2017 the download links were sent out via email to all their fans. That’s when my email arrived (4:23PM Sept 28th Pacific Standard Time in Canada). They were exciting times indeed!

After listening to the album all day, I wrote the following first impressions the very next day on Facebook:
“Mona and Lisa’s singing on their “The Best Years of our Lives” video(Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel cover) just blew me away when I first heard it. So much depth and feeling in their singing that just touches your soul. The singing in Orange has that magic in abundance, that is another reason I love this album.”

“Count on Me”, and “Still a Friend of Mine” were the two tracks that immediately grabbed and shook me the most the first time around when I heard the album. The beautiful singing, lyrics and especially the melody of these two beautiful ballads just touches and soothes the soul!

Then there is “Sweet Lorraine”, such a wonderful tune, that every time you hear it, you can’t help but tap your feet and sway your head a little. If they told me it was a lost track that Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote, I would believe them without a doubt, but no, it is a MonaLisa Twins original as all the tracks on Orange are. MonaLisa Twins brilliant song writing talent just shine here.

“Close to You”, is the love song of the album that is hard not to love with it’s delightful guitar lead in, catchy tune, and touching lyrics. “Club 27” is the hard rock and roll song of the album which is one of the best hard rock tunes I’ve heard in a long time. Just love the Hendricks/Santana kind of guitar riffs throughout, and the singing is spectacular.

“Once Upon a Time”, and “Waiting for the Waiter” are two delightful blues songs, with legendary songwriter and singer “John Sebastian” from the Loving Spoonfuls, doing the honors on the blues harp. MonaLisa Twins are admired by great musical talents like John Sebastian and Steve Harley and many others.

Orange has a positive outlook on the future that is echoed throughout the album with 11 remarkable songs that capture the spirit of the finest pop/rock songs of the 60’s in a modern refreshing and unique style and sound of the MonaLisa Twins. It brings to light some of the issues facing the world and mysteries of life in such tracks as “It’s Alright”, “Waiting for the Waiter”, “In it for Love”, and “That’s Life”. I just can’t help but feel better when I listen to “No More Worries Company”. Sometimes just listening to this album does what that song says. Melts your worries away and brightens your day.

Orange is one of the best album’s I own in the company of albums from bands like the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Supertramp etc.. After immersing themselves in the great legendary songs of the 60’s by bands like the Beatles, since they were like 13 years old , and doing covers of these great classic songs, I think a lot of that genius rubbed off on the MonaLisa Twins as evidenced by their own remarkable song writing and production in Orange. Orange is one of the finest albums I’ve come across in a long time and is one I will treasure for many years to come.

Absolutely Fab Best Ive heard in a long time

Orange works for me on every level. The musical growth of MLT in the last 3-4 years is just so obvious with this album. The singing and playing is great as always. And now some very strong songwriting and production. Yes everyone loves the covers, as do I. You can’t argue with the millions of You Tube views. But I hope the new songs keep coming. The bar is set high with Orange. I’m looking forward to the next one.

  42. Richard Billingsley

Mona and Lisa are exceptionally talented singer/songwriters who have great energy between them. I’m happy to add this album to my collection. There is room for acts like the MonaLisa Twins who value strong lyrics, and melody. May I add that I am over the moon for their vocal performance? I’m in love with their music and with them!

  43. Giordano Bruno (verified owner)

I won´t forget the first Ýoutube video of MonaLisa Twins that i watched. It was the cover of Beatles Drive my car. Besides being a Beatles song, i could feel the energy in less than a nano second, i mean they definitely rock. Then i watched through all the videos and see how good they are so i realized the Orange album wouldn´t dissapoint me. It is like a miracle of pop rock. This album plays in my head all the time with their great songs: “It´s alright” my favourite one. I like how they can play from beat and the psychedelic of Revolver to Paul´s vodevil and music hall. I also can feel the echoes of the rock n roll side of Simon and Garfunkel and the Everly Brothers. Nobody can bring back the 60´s better than MonaLisa Twins. You won´t regret buying it. 10/10 Giordano from Nola (Italy).
