The Year Of Music Videos

In 2013 we went kind of crazy on the videos …

We used a lot of the year to expand our YouTube channel and consistently build up an audience and a bigger subscriber base. We tried to come up with as many concepts and video ideas as we could to keep our channel and music diverse and intriguing.

Looking back at that time now, we really have to thank our past selves for putting in the work of creating a brand-new video every two weeks (or even every week for a while), because it laid the foundation of everything that was to come.

First of all, it pushed us to stay creative and learn more and more about video making. But it also helped immensely in terms of creating a bigger fan base. Many of the videos we did in that year now have hundreds of thousands of views. We’re sure most of you reading this post have found us through our YouTube videos, so in that sense that year was crucial. And not to forget, a lot of fun 🙂

But 2013 wasn’t all about filming videos. We also decided to spend 6 weeks in London … not only to shoot videos there, but mainly to get an idea of what the UK music scene would be like. We knew staying in Austria wasn’t a long-term option for us and our kind of music.

During these 6 weeks we got to play multiple shows around town, visited various radio stations, did a whole lot of busking and managed to film 3 new videos for our “When We’re Together” album.

But while we loved our time there, we didn’t find we had any particular opportunity or starting point to justify a move of countries. Living in the London area turned out to be awfully expensive and moving there as a family and business was definitely off the cards for that reason alone.

Nevertheless, it broadened our personal horizon, understanding and outlook of where we were in terms of our musical journey. We didn’t want to force things when it wasn’t quite the right time nor place for us. (Moving to Liverpool only some months later proved that we’ve been on the right path already.)

Back home we used our new experience and managed to step up our game to playing some of our most important shows up to that point.

A one-hour live radio broadcast of one of these shows on one of Austria’s biggest radio stations and various festivals and shows made us more and more comfortable on stage. Things started to feel easier and more natural. All in all, a good year!
