Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma – New Video

We vaguely remember …

… covering this song on a radio station many, many years ago but hadn’t played it since. That’s until we decided to revisit it for a Duo Session! We love this song and Melanie’s music in general. “Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma” is one of those quirky gems from the past.

We’ve done “Michelle” by the Beatles (on our very first live album) and now “Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma”, so we think you’ve heard us butcher the French language enough now, and we’ll probably leave it at that. Unless you can think of other songs with French lyrics that we really need to cover? We do apologise to all the Frenchmen, lol.

We’ve recorded a lot more Duo Sessions over at the MLT Club and will soon release the new Duo Session II album! Watch this space 😃

A huge shoutout and thank you to Journey Instruments for providing us with these stunning instruments. Believe it or not, this guitar and bass can both be folded in half and fit neatly into a bag the size of a backpack. If you’re in the market for a (travel) guitar or bass, definitely give them some consideration, they have lots of models to choose from.

Facebook Page Hacked

You might remember that a few weeks ago our Facebook page (and at the time, YouTube as well) had been hacked.

The issue on Facebook never fully got resolved and some of you might have noticed that our page currently looks like an absolute mess. The profile picture is a photo of just Mona (no, she’s not starting a solo career) and all posts from the last 4 years have been deleted. This has not been a creative decision on our part 😅

Basically, for the last few weeks we weren’t able to access our own page at all, and whoever is now in control of the page has been messing with it. Facebook is supposedly “on the case” but the support is insanely slow to say the least.

There are also fake weight loss ads being run with our account, despite Facebook assuring us that that’s impossible as our ad account has been disabled. Yet, many of you have been sending us screenshots of these ads. Go figure.

Facebook claims they are working on it but we have no idea how long it will be until we get access to our page again. We just thought we’d update you in case anyone is confused about our lack of posts there.

We are plenty busy with other things in the meantime but wish us luck anyway!

Thanks for reading, we hope you’ll enjoy watching the new video!

Stay groovy,

Mona & Lisa

Wonderful, as always.
Not my favorite composition, but you make it sparkle.

As for another song with French lyrics…you might try “Hymn to Love” rec. by Edith Piaf among others. Beautiful ballad. Some singers switch between French and English on the chorus.
It’s always been a favorite of mine.

WONDERFUL rendition of this Melanie’s song. Perhaps you could do some song from another female singer that I love, Janis Ian, like “The other side of the Sun”

Excellent cover of my favorite Melanie song from around 1970. I remember this song very well

Beautifully done! I love the way your voices harmonize. Everyone is mentioning Melanie’s version of this song but the one by the New Seekers comes to mind for me.

Want to have fun with some French? Try Dominique from the Singing Nun.

Look what you have done to this song: wonderful interpretation!
Beautiful voices and sweet rithm.

Love the song and love your version of it, i also really enjoy the duo sessions, you’re fine musicians.

Love it girls. Oddly I heard Melanie’s version on Radio Scotland the other night. Excellent playing and singing as usual. When can we see you live?

What can I say that hasn’t been said before? You two ladies are versatile and talented and willing to try different styles, Great.

Mona & Lisa very nice cover song You lady’s are very talented. Great Singing and bass and Guitar playing. Keep on singing, Lou one of your big fans. Good Luck

How ’bout “My Belle Amie” by Tee-Set? Always liked that song, and I’m sure y’all would SMASH it!

Awesome cover of an awesome song. I’m 72 and was a Melanie fan back in the day and still am. Love your music too.

I remember that song very well, but it doesn’t get much attention these days. Thank you, THANK YOU, for putting it back in circulation. You brought a much-needed smile to my face this morninng.

As a former high school French student I think your French is quite satisfactory. Perhaps you’re ready to tackle “Dominique” by The Singing Nun.

One more thing, perhaps you could write a new verse for this song “Look what they’ve done to my Facebook page, Ma….”

The singing and harmonies are absolutely brilliant and beautiful, leaves me breathless. Love the French part, and Mona’s blues harp is wonderful. Your talent just elevates this song so amazingly. Cool guitars by the way!

Truly delightful! Super twin sibling harmonies on a song I haven’t heard for decades!! xx

thought you will sing it german, too … but not … schade 😉
perfect nice song & sound

Great work! Love the video and audio (especially being able to hear the bass well). Keep it coming! You may want to explore some Joni Mitchell songs.

Outstanding! This outdoes the original by miles! Especially liked the harmonica solo! I look forward to the Duo Sessions II release. Rock on! You are the best!

Bravo!!! Video and audio quality is outstanding! Enjoyed the info on the folding instruments. I never would have guessed they fold up. Your dresses and harmonies are beautiful. Please keep playing.

Very nice! I loved this song when it came out in the early 1970s, and now, look what you’ve done to her song! Sorry about the pun. As usual, you ladies have produced another smash hit! When are you coming to America, please? (Specifically the Houston, Texas area, may I suggest Cynthia Wood Pavilion? ) HOORAY!

Echo that. Please make an America Tour with a stop in Texas. Another great duet. So versatile on so many instruments. Enjoy all your music. Amazing harmonies.

I think this song and songs from the 60s pertaining to peace and love and all of us getting along but the songs are a slow tempo should be remain in more of a East Coast or West Coast Swing tempo. It would bring back those songs, that mind set that we have lost, and revive an old dance style as well.

Thank you. I love Melanie as well. Great cover. I quite like her cover of Ruby Tuesday among others. As for a song with French lyrics, may I suggest you listen to “Busy Signal” by the Lollipops and “Tut Tut Tut Tut” which is a French Version of the sing done by British singer and actress Gillian Hills. I think you could have a lot of fun with this one. For many of us, we first heard this song from the miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit” which had lots of great tunes.

I think you would do a very good version of Blondie’s ‘Denis’.
It has a little bit of French in it.

Hey Girls, pretty nice rendition of this old song, your French is sooo cute, vous êtes pardonnées lol, and you should try other experiments! The repertoire of the sixties / seventies is rich, at the time many French singers had covered songs in English (with more or less success!)
So, are you ready boots ? :-))

Hi Ladies!

I enjoyed everything in your rendition of this song! As for song suggestions in French — “La Mer” is a very pretty song in French. And I looked up funny songs by Brigitte Bardot but couldn’t find the one I was looking for. However, another very good song from 1954 is “Mambo Italiano,” which is humorous, AND has a nice melody. And it’s in English, but you can throw in an Italian accent! I’m guessing you will like either song!

I like the way you really turned up the dynamics & feeling towards the end here, & those dresses are gorgeous! I like the contrast between Lisa’s long flowing hair & Mona’s braids, which remind me of Linda McCartney’s hair style! You both put in so much quality work, not only in your Music, but in personal style! Bravo — Bud J.

I had almost forgot about Melanie. I;m sure she would be happy with what you done with her song1 I would love to hear you cover Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)!

Yep! Every time you guys keep it sweet and simple in a duo session it’s always perfection to the 9th degree. BRAVO! Thank you.
Please tell Rudi to give you guys big hugs from all of us clubbers 🙂

Excellent version, I love it. What ductility you have to sing in different languages! Could you sing something in Spanish, please, even just two words? It could be “Bésame Mucho” by The Beatles. Thank you so much…

The óldies’are doing best and your performance is great !! The song is already in my head all day !!

Excellent rendition of a true classic. Love Melanie and love what you have done to this song.

I think your voices are beautiful. I think that you are a blessing to all of us. I am both greatful and thankful that I have the both of you to listen to. And by the way you’re both gorgeous.

Beautiful rendition and the harmonies really swept up towards the end of the song. As for French lyrics, you may want to go the whole hog and try some Francois Hardy – right era too! She recorded in English, German and Italian too!
