Summer Rain – Early Access (Audio)

Summer Rain …

Gentle showers feeding flowers in our hearts. ????

Here is a new original song, the 3rd one we released this summer here in the MLT Club (next to Janitor Joe & I Bought Myself A Politician). We think that’s now a nice trio of new original songs, all revealing a different side of “Original Album #3” which is in the making right now.

  1. Loving this one Girls, sounds very McCartneyesque, the sort of song he record for either the Fabs or Wings. Love it. Thank you…

  2. This is the first song I listen to today and it made me smile. I love your chord progressions and the care you take with your guitar parts.

  3. I know I posted here before but came back to this lovely original. The guitar is fittingly clear and beautiful, and the harmonies truly awesome. Truly lovely.

  4. Just saw this. What a lovely song and previous posters are right. When I plugged in the music and harmonies were incredible. Thank you for this.

  5. There is it again the harmony of your both voices, I love it. I must say it’s unreachable – a fine, little and quiet song.

    stay groovy – Baba

    Detlef

  6. A simply lovely song that connects on several levels of life and love. A masterful blend of instrumental and your always incredible vocal talents. This song can truly make your heart happy!

As always, “Thanks for the Memories.”

  7. I listened with headphones and am glad I did! Stereo is great and I love the bass and the guitar work. Beautiful!

    1. I agree, Tom. This sounds incredible with earbuds. The separation is mesmerizing. Guitars blend so well, but keep to their own side.

      JP

  8. Really dig this one with earbuds. The stereo effects are incredible and that smooth bass line sounds great. Of course your voices sound as sweet as can be.

I am sure that when we premiere the album and this track starts, we’ll all think,”Ah, Summer Rain” ????

You feed the flowers in our heart ????

    JP

  9. Normally, I would gloss over my feelings about this topic so in the interest of keeping things
on the lighter side I will just gently remind you that conversations require some level of back and forth communication. One way communication is more akin to a dissertation or said another way… We talk you listen. That’s not really a communication. Usually communication
invokes a response. Perhaps it’s different for others. I am happy for you Ladies living what appears to be a wonderful life. There is no hidden message there just that I enjoy your music
as much as it looks like you enjoy making it absolutely wonderful. Jack Noble

  10. Listening to your lovely song Summer Rain evoked another older song from around 1987 by Johnny Rivers, having the same title….Although different, both songs have a similar nostalgic feel, and if you’re not familiar with the Johnny Rivers song, I think that you’d enjoy it considering that it references The Beatles and Sgt. Pepper….

  11. Very wonderful song! And once again, you have fooled me with your title! I love the surprise I feel when I see a song title that I know from my youth, and then it’s a completely different song altogether! Keep up the great work!

  12. Really lovely song ! That acoustic guitar solo is simply superb. I think the next album has a good chance to be your best so far !

  13. Oh, that’s just great! Another beautiful song I cannot share with the world! Lol You all have a style with your originals that is completely your own in this genre. It’s a beautiful song that gives me peace, love, and understanding vibes. I especially liked you playing around with the jazz type ending riff a similar to ain’t no sunshine concert. Can’t wait for the new video. The pic was beautiful. Everyone Stay safe. Peace. God Speed. Stay Groovy. ❤????

  14. A very beautiful ballad, a reminder of your first LP sound and feel. The type of songs that can cheer you up and make you feel better through music. Your voices sound great and pleasant, as this music style is the most natural style for you (in my opinion). The guitars arrangement and chord progression is also interesting.
All the components of the song just fit together, and seem simple at first, but you keep discovering more layers when listening again.
People sometimes don’t realize how difficult it may be to write an original good ballad, I wonder if the whole song came to you at once, or did you work on it for a long period of time.
I hope to find a lot of this type of songs in your next LP…either these or good rockers…

  15. I’ve been listening to it nonstop. It has such a peaceful feeling, it puts me on a tropical veranda with a Panama hat watching the soft rain.
The harmonics at the beginning are beautiful, they set the mood and the lyrics are so perfect with all those layered meanings so appropriate for these times.
With these 3 songs the new album will be awesome, no matter what else is on it!

  16. Like Michael Holt, I was pretty disappointed in this song. Initially. It seemed too lightweight and giving too much magical, nonsense powers to mere rainfall.

But it’s programmed to repeat. And repeat. So, I kept listening again and again to enjoy the pitter-pat, multi-guitar stereo raindrops and the quiet, understated voices (leading with Mona, right?) and to try to figure out what was going on in the maze-like way the song is structured with words and melody subtly straying from where they were expected. And now, I’ve probably listened to “Summer Rain” more times and more closely than any other MLT song. It’s sweet as a summer rain, and I wish we had more summer rain and that it really could show us how to get along. A song of hope.

  17. Here in Brazil we are hoping for some (winter) rain. It´s a dry winter. Listening to your song it comes the smell of wet ground that annouces the arrival of the blessed rain. I’m already imaging the sound of rain falling on the roof, easying my sleep.

  18. I am really looking forward to the release of your new album! We have had the pleasure of hearing 3 new songs now, & every one is so different, but they all have MonaLisa written all over them. Great Job ladies!

  19. Just like my first MLT experience with “If I Fell”, this one has hit me right in the solar plexus. I have yet to understand how it is that two young women less than half my age and five time zones away are able to generate such a profound and emotional effect, but I’m on a mission to find out.

  20. I love this heart warming song and your harmonies are great as always. The art work really caught my eye as well, did one or both of you create this cover art?

  21. I hate to say this, but I didn’t care for this song. Slow songs must have both deep lyrics and a haunting melody–e.g., The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel that you performed very well together–and this fell short on both counts. My reaction is due in part to the fact that I know you can do better so I was expecting to be blown away. I really love the fun songs you perform,–e.g., Bus Stop and Drive my Car so I would really look forward to hearing an original that let’s you show off both your tremendous talent and your lovable personalities.

    1. I don’t know Michael, on the flip side of what you said, to me “Summer Rain” is in the realm of “And I Love Her”, and “In My Life” were to the Beatles expanding their musical horizons. I am sure at the time the labels told the Beatles to keep doing those fun bright songs like “She Loves You”, but they would never have gone past their “early period”, and would be stuck back there with likes of the Turtles and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Kudos to MLT for pushing the envelope in writing songs that continuously expand their horizon, and what beauty and emotional depth they are achieving here. Just my 2 cents.

BTW, “Still A Friend of Mine”, has the deep lyrics and hauntingly beautiful melody in spades which they already accomplished 4 years ago.

  22. Ladies, all I can say is WOW! Summer Rain is so beautiful ???? Lisa’s vocals are perfect! The harmonies are exquisite.
It sounds like something BREAD would have written. (They were a fairly big folk band in the 70s).
I really Love Summer Rain! It gives you a peacefulness that you get during a soft rain on a quiet peaceful day.
Thank you for your special gift of music. It fills my heart with joy, love, and tranquility.
You’ve touched my heart deep with this one????❤
    Rick Ross

  23. Already love this song so much. As I listen to it, the UK rains fall gently, so apt for Summer Rain. Beautifully written, the feel of the song is amazing.

  24. Hi Dear Mona and Lisa..Wow…this song is so soft, sweet and really warms us up., it sounds like a simple song, but the harmony of your voices, the perfect guitars (as always), and the bass line complete a picture that it takes us to dream of a beautiful rain… you go from simple to hard with ease… I love rain… I’m loving this song. it’s like a raindrop in my heart..thank you and Stay groovy.

  25. Love you singing just with acoustics. Your voices are beautiful. Love this song. Really getting excited for the new album.

  26. Hi Ladies, I can hear the raindrops clutching at my window in this song. A wonderful poetical song! Well done, I´m waiting for the album I hope you will release soon.
Greetings from a lousy summer in Germany, Frank

  27. I really like this song. It’s not a 60s themed song melodically or lyrically. If I had anyone to compare it to I would say it has a Brian Wilson feel to it. Making use of your voices and harmonies. It’s a soft, lilting tune with a great melody that along with it’s slightly tropical rhythm to it makes it a pleasure to listen to again and again. Thanks for the new addition to the musical universe. Well done.

  28. Another beauty from the MonaLisa Twins. This is the perfect song for those evenings I have trouble falling asleep. The beautiful guitars, bass and voices will gently guide me into the land of sweet dreams, as I imagine the soft pitter patter of rain on the window.

I am reminded of the slightly more upbeat “Winter”, which also has a therapeutic affect on me. Yes, in the past I have relied on the notes of Mozart to gently caress my troubled mind. Now I also have the music of those other famous Austrians, the MonaLisa Twins.

The only other “Summer Rain” songs I am familiar with are Belinda Carlile’s, and from the sixties, Johnny Rivers. ????❤️

  29. This song simply leaves me feeling completely peaceful and happy. And its gift of serenity lingers on and on after it stops. A truly blissful affair. Thank you so much for yet another treasure! Just like your other original albums, this next one promises to offer up a collection of uniquely different songs that somehow fit together into a single coherent and wonderful adventure of its own. You’re the best.

  30. Such a pleasant, beautiful song. It has a Beatle-esque flavor that drifts me back into the past with a smile. Another gem. Can’t wait for the album.

  31. What a very light and airy summertime song! That bass REALLY stands out and I love it. I love how the song ends as well. You knocked it out of the ballpark once again girls!

  32. Beautiful uplifting song with a great melody and phrasing! Sublime harmonies as always which serves to remind the listener of the quality of your musicianship and all-round talent.

  33. Thanks for sharing this early this morning. I was able to listen to it on my way to work.
I love the intro. The melody is very catchy Nice word play with the reigning rain. Give peace a chance.
This song definitely gets better with each listen, like always. It’s easy to hear each individual instrument. Let me listen to it One More Time. Love the solo! I like the harmonics in the last chorus. The bass is very kool. Is that Rudi’s stand up bass? Earbuds in now, and wow. Like we used to say back in the day, this is a very clean recording. Lol what did we know? This mix is perfect. I love the bass. Your vocals are as beautiful as ever. I really like the separation of the guitars, too.
As the percussion begins, it really sets the mood for a gentle rain. Nice!
Cant wait for the new album. Sounds like you have created another masterpiece.
    JP
The outro is kool. Your voices are very enchanting.
You two feed the flowers in our hearts. ????????

    1. JP, agree, they created another masterpiece, and can’t wait to hear the full album. There is definitely much masterful music creative effects going on in this song throughout from beginning to end. For, example the ending, with each phrase, “Summer rain, come down to reign again..”, “summer rain, rain down to ease the pain”, “summer rain, you feed the flowers in our hearts”, they lift your spirit up higher and higher and higher each repeating time, and then ends with a tingling” ..in our har-har-har- hearts!” that catapults and leaves your spirit floating up high in the sky as the song ends. Brilliant song writing, such beautiful and joyful effects.

  34. I love the rhythm and acoustic picking, the solo, melody or instrumental was really good!!!! The lyrics are really great.. Something is a little different in this song than your usual,
adding more instruments, I don’t know but I really like it,
the structure is really dynamic and it belongs with the 2 other
songs on the album, well done ladies, a hit like always!!!! Thanks for the early release!!! Groovy!!!!

  35. Beautiful. Love the bass. One of the things I enjoy about your originals is they all sound different. You are off to a great follow-up to Orange.

  36. A nice, chill song with bass work that Paul himself would be proud of!
    Sounds like the Hofner?
Lovely guitar work too with some interesting chords and notes here and there. Songs like this have a lot going on and so lend themselves to multiple listens and therefore longevity because the listener doesn’t get bored with it.
    My 2 cents worth anyway.
    Another great song.

  37. It’s not at all difficult for me to bring myself back to the 1960’s and imagine hearing this on my transistor radio. That being said, I don’t recall an equivalent to the Mona Lisa Twins at that time. Simple, beautiful, and harmonious. Thank you for sharing this!

  38. Mona and Lisa never disappoint! And Summer Rain is simply more proof! I was getting Everly Brothers vibes through out the song! And I loved it! Your harmonies are always spot on. I’m no music critic, I just enjoy good music. This is great music. Thank you ! A fan forever.

  39. Wow…….great song. Just wish I could get some summer rain here in the dessert.
You guys knocked it out of the park again!!!

  40. Beautiful. I could zone out and go to sleep listening to Summer Rain over and over. Such beautiful harmonies and acoustic guitar. I love the chord progression. Matches the lyrics perfectly in my humble opinion. Just such a beautiful song from two such beautiful souls. I can close my eyes, relax and go to a peaceful, happy place. Love Summer Rain!!

  41. I love your new song, Mona and Lisa. The lyrics, music, your voices and harmonies are very moving. I am glad that found you on YouTube back in 2011. So much talent. I can’t wait for your new album. ❤️❤️❤️

  42. Clean, calm, beautiful!
    A little unusual start.
I go to bed.Good night and have a good day tomorrow
to Mona, Lisa and everyone who has read this and to me.
    Bye!

  43. Each of your new originals makes me so happy!
I’m imagining a music video for this with lots of rain all around.
And I like the way you arranged it. I can hear rain drops!

  44. Wow what a beautiful song your voices go together so well
It’s up there with all the classics you two are so talented musicians and your song writing is brilliant

  45. Wow what a beautiful song Mona and Lisa! So now we have 3 new songs and everyone one is different and that shows us all how well balanced you both are with your song writing and arranging. Like Jung said the guitar in the beginning is fabulous and to me the bass is outstanding to me and of course the harmony and blend you both have is so lovely to listen to. Wow this new album is coming together so well for you both and as always it is worth the wait. And here in the Northeast of the USA and the West area ( California ) we could sure use some rain, wild fires are going strong in California and praying for them. Thank you again for making our Friday and kicking into the weekend great.
    Love this song to bits

  46. Whoa, that’s one humdinger of a beautiful original, cultivating the utmost organically creativity grown from within your hearts and minds and the instrumentation and harmonies just bloom and blossom fully to give off the most fragrant music aroma. I Love this, !! Original Album # 3 is truly carving out to be yet another creative niche of its own merit, and deservedly so. Thankyou for offering this Reign of Rain songs ????????

  47. Right off the bat I love the title and subject of the song, “Summer Rain”. Last night after nearly 2 months of scorching heat and no rain where I am, we had rain that sounded so good bouncing off the roof. The rain made me “feel alive again”. I started to think about a good song about rain, and only one that came to mind was the Beatles “Rain”, but now there is your “Summer Rain” which is absolutely charming and beautiful. What perfection.

Summer Rain starts off with the most wonderful guitar sounds that grab me emotionally right away, and sets the elegant and soothing mood of the entire song. The singing just raises my spirits. Love the easy going feel and the lyrics are so beautiful. The song and beautiful harmonies takes me to another wonderful place, the gentle guitar work caresses the mind and soul, magical! Love how the song makes me feel. And then the ending leaves me making me feel so good. “Gentle showers feeding flowers in our ha-ha-ha-ha-hearts”. Absolutely brilliant and adorable song, what inspired song writing, a masterpiece. And those lyrics, wow, poetic magic! Love it.   ????????????????

    1. Yes, you and the north west of the US have had a terrible summer. I am not looking forward to our coming summer for the same reason. As for “Summer Rain”, Belinda Carlisle had a song by this name on her third album in 1989, and Johnny Rivers released his “Summer Rain” in 1968.

      1. It’s raining where I am this morning. Can hear the spray of water as cars drive by, and everything smells so fresh, and feels peaceful and calming. There is a place for everything and when balance is restored everything is so perfect. Had “Summer Rain” playing in my head last night and this morning, what a great song when it can do that! Love “Summer Rain”. I will check out those songs by Belinda Carlisle and Johnny Rivers, thanks!

  48. WOW! This song somehow seems to wrap itself around you and feels like it gives you a warm hug.

Thank you so very much for the “hug”. 🙂

  49. Perfectly Sublime, Ladies! Don’t know if it’s more beautifully written or sung. Call it a draw, I guess. Wait…do you have Paul Simon tied to a chair in your basement, forced to write songs for food? Or maybe Joni Mitchell? No, I see the lyrics page gives you credit, but forgive me for the errant thought. This is going to be one incredible album…..

  50. I’ve been so sick this week (thankfully not COVID). This song (especially the harmonies) just wrapped it’s loving lullaby arms around me. Thank you for the peace and comfort!!
