Visiting Mike Sweeney at BBC Radio Manchester – Radio Interview

From Liverpool to Manchester

Earlier this week we visited our friend Mike Sweeney over at BBC Radio Manchester to do another little interview/live performance on his show before the end of the year. We just can’t let 2018 pass without visiting Mike at least once.

We combined our radio show trip to Manchester with another fun interview for the hospital radio Broadgreen over in Liverpool afterwards. Unfortunately we haven’t got the recording for the latter yet but we want to share the BBC one with you here.We came equipped with our acoustic guitars and also played a bit of live music on both programmes. Here you can listen back to the show with Mike Sweeney:

One more quick point…..As a big fan of yours I am always so proud to hear how wonderfully you conduct yourselves in interviews and videos. The two of you are so smart and refined; so polite, so caring, so fun and happy. You do such a great job speaking on any topic and if something is asked that you either don’t want to get into too deeply or dont feel qualified to address, you are so immensely graceful in your responses. We speak about your musical and video talent often in these discussion groups but this is just as much of a necessary talent for any successful entertainer/celebrity. And I really love the fact that you never forget your old friends ala Mike Sweeney, Bravo all around! πŸ™‚

Yes Ed, what you are pointing out about Mona & Lisa’s grace, poise, respect, civility, intelligence, and sense of humor is so apparent. These qualities make them stand out so much in contrast with most young entertainers and musicians today. Together with their talent and beauty they are almost too wonderful to be true!

I could not agree more Stephen, and you put it very well! They are so well grounded and their tight knit loving family life has a lot to do with that. We are all very fortunate to have them to follow and enjoy as we do!

What a beautiful version of “i’ll Be Back”! your voices blend in so angelically as Mike expresses, as only siblings can. MLT unplugged! And what fantastic news on a 3rd “Original” album being released next year! That is something very special to look forward to! Thank you as always for sharing.

Loved this… Thankyou for the playback for this… I missed getting to hear Graham’s show as well and hope a playback will be available for your stint on his show… Your Live rendition on I’ll Be Back… Whoa wow… I’m sitting in a Tim Hortons with my old school earphones plugged into phone ( the new earplug things don’t fit into my wee ears so old school earphones must do for me), as I was saying… earphones plugged in phone… Sipping on the English Breakfast Tea????????β˜•???? and having a KitKat choco bar (as I can’t eat anything from Tim H’s due to nut allergies and they use nuts in their food products ????).. I was listening to interview… Tapping my feet… Head bobbing and lip syncing along to the song… And do I care if folks stared at me and thought me crazy?!… I really didn’t care… I was enjoying good time listening with my tea and chocolate with good company of MLT and Mike Sweeney… Groovy Great ????????????❀️????????????????????????️????????

I think this is what makes them so unique. I mean, has anyone ever done I’ll Be Back other than the Beatles and now MLT? They’re not run of the mill which is what makes them special. You just never know what they’re going to do next. Just like volume 3. White Room? Come on, really? But they nailed it. And the guitar work on Rod Argent’s organ solos on Time of the Season was superb. And of course when I saw they were doing Hey Bulldog, one of the most underrated Beatles songs ever, I went straight to it when I got the CD. They are uniquely special and I cannot wait for their new album next year. That was good news to hear. But what I am really looking forward to is a Christmas Album. The Christmas music they’ve done so far is superb and I know a full album of that music would make for a truly great Christmas.

Hi Kristi!
This was for everyone that missed the show live or wanted to listen back to it afterwards πŸ™‚ More exclusive content coming over the next few days! β™₯

Hi there Lisa and Mona! I have too much going on today to listen to the radio show and be able to concentrate on it. But a couple blokes here said you will release your 3rd original album in 2019??? GROOVY!!! I am listening to pB&m (BAM) Volumes 2 and 3 and ORANGE everyday at work in my Mp3 player. After promising and threatening to get off Facebook for the past 3 months, I will finally pull the plug tomorrow for at least 2-3 months. Itso has talked me out of deleting it and losing over 2 years of posts and threads. I will just inactivate and be able to come back any time. I just need a break to catch up with life. I will keep on keeping on here in the MLT CLUB. Have a lovely weekend, my lovely friends! πŸ™‚

P.S. Please Mr. Postman just delivered a card or a letter; so thank you!!! You are always so cute, but especially in your jammies on a polar bear; lol! Beautiful message too, and I wish and pray for all of God’s blessings on you, your family, and your careers in 2019 and beyond.

LOL; remember the happy Christmas card you sent where you were buried in the snow neck deep? Was that 2016 or 2017? Anyway, I felt bad because I did not thank you right way. You know why? It was because after 2 weeks I found it on the ground next to the porch after the snow had melted; yikes! Naughty Please Mr. Postman!!! I was crying then and laughing now. The card was all wet and the message blurred. But no worries, because Itso and Carol CPH told me what the message said. Please do not send a replacement though. I see how expensive postage is from your side of The Pond. As I have said before, “MLT2 loves MLT – more than ever.” This MLT CLUB is the grooviest of groovy ideas ever!!!

Loved the interview. Always nice to catch up on the goings on. Especially when you let slip a tiny morsel of your third album. I think I heard that right. I had to rewind to be sure. So excited for this.

I was very fortunate to be able to listen to the shoes playback the same day and was able to listen to the Broadband show Live. What a huge treat for me.
I can’t sit still I’m so excited for the third original album to be released next year.
Love the acoustic version of I’ll Be Back. Personally I like it better than the Video you all did. Its that raw Live sound you really can’t get in a polished recording. It gives an edge That’s all its own.
Thanks ever so much for sharing.????❀????????????????

Missed the Mike Sweeney show by a half an hour so I’m glad you posted this interview! Well done! I did catch the Broadgreen show though! But you say a new album is coming next year?! YES!!! I can’t wait!

My brothers and I (is it right?) had a (bad) band a few years ago and one of the songs we were thinking about to play is I’ll be back, but the band has broke. Listening to you playing it brings back the wish to try it again.

You should get together with your brother and play it just for fun, it’s a great one to do on just two guitars & vocals! πŸ™‚ If ever you do, feel free to film it and send it our way, we’d love to hear that.

There’s so many amazing Beatles songs, yet this one often gets overlooked. It would be great if more people played it! ❀

Listened to this broadcast live during the week and was surprised that Mike Sweeney nominated β€˜Rubber Soul’ as the album β€˜I’ll Be Back’ first appeared on. It was actually the last track on the second side of β€˜A Hard Day’s Night’. Now Lisa and Mona, you both definitely need to brush up on your Beatles’ discography in the new year. Especially iconic albums like β€˜Rubber Soul’. I enjoyed the interview and your acoustic version of β€˜I’ll Be Back’.

Howard, I am a huge Beatles fan too, and I know a lot about their albums and songs… But, just like Mona and Lisa, I didn’t experience their music as the albums and singles came out during the ’60s, because I wasn’t born yet. I experienced them in mp3 format, all of them at the same time – a huge sea of awesome music to dive into…LOL So I too can’t remember for 100% of the songs from which album each of them is, and I can get confused about things like that… But that’s understandable (I hope you’ll agree), and not a big deal πŸ™‚

I wasn’t serious about the Lisa and Mona comment. However, Mike Sweeney was a rocker in the sixties and played at the original Cavern Club in 1966. Also, being a DJ from England I did expect his Beatles’ knowledge to be a bit sharper.

Mona and Lisa first heard most of the Beatles songs on an MP3 player too, so like you, wouldn’t be expected to have the knowledge of fans like me who purchased the original vinyl albums.

Also being in England they may run across the British versions of the Beatles albums to listen to which had different song lists than the Capital releases in America. Capital managed to release more albums in the US than EMI since Capital put fewer songs on albums then the UK albums. So for a lot of us fans who had Capital Beatles albums and then got the CDs when they were first released and which used the UK versions of the albums there will be confusion on which songs are on which album in what position on the album.

Correct Richard. Especially regarding their early album releases. The North American Capitol release of β€˜Rubber Soul’ included only 12 tracks compared to Parlophone’s 14. They removed four songs from the running order – “Drive My Car”, “Nowhere Man”, “What Goes On” and “If I Needed Someone” – all of which were instead issued on the Beatles’ next North American album, Yesterday and Today, in June 1966. The four songs were replaced with two tracks that had appeared on Help! but not the version released in the US. The two songs were “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and “It’s Only Love”.

I seriously don’t expect the Twins to know or care about stuff that pedantic trivia nuts like me find important. I’m just pleased they love the music and do such good covers. As for Mike Sweeney, an English rocker who’s a popular DJ from Manchester, I think he needs to brush up on the Beatles’ recording history. We can’t have him feeding our Twins misleading information! LOL!

Awesome news about a new 3rd original album next year, it’s so exciting!!!
Great interview with Mike Sweeney there; really enjoyed that and hearing you talk about MLT Club and things. What a beautiful acoustic performance of I’ll Be Back. Loved it. Thanks so much! πŸ™‚
