Winter Wonderland

Walking in the winter wonderland …

Yep, we’re a tiny bit annoyed that there isn’t a single video/recording/radio interview or performance from the winter of 2014 (or actually from most of that year) that one of us didn’t have a cough, sore throat or at least a stuffy nose.

When we first moved to the UK we caught just about every bug there is. Our Cavern Club residency didn’t help where among all the bands that played and staff that worked there the “Cavern – flu” was an all too common term 😉

But enough whining, we still hope you enjoy this little excerpt of our Cavern Show before Christmas back in 2014, stuffy nosed or not.

We love this tune and it’d actually be great to record this one “properly” one day. I’m making a mental note as I type 😛

What are your favourite Christmas tunes? Many of you have asked for a Christmas album and that could probably possibly happen to happen to be a project we might do one day. Do you have any suggestions for Xmas songs you’d really like to hear from us? Let us know!See you all tomorrow!♥♥Mona & Lisa

And before you go, here are some pictures from that Cavern show taken by © Eric The Fish 🙂

This was the first time I saw you live,we could only to stay for your first set as we had other plans, but what really festive feeling in there..and the audience support for you was incredible..really wished we could have stayed ❤️

I’ve always felt that “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree”, would do a great mashup song as they sort of flow into each other.

Seeing what a great job you did with Wonderful Christmas Time, I wonder if you’d like to do Wham!’s Last Christmas. It’s stuck in the era with those synths, but it’s a great song.

Off the beaten path are some songs I love: 2000 Miles (Pretenders), A Spaceman Came Traveling (Chris de Burgh), and a couple rockers from ’73: I Wish It Could be Christmas Everyday (Wizzard) and Merry Xmas Everybody (Slade).
There’s also Sleigh Ride (The Ronettes) and Santa Clause Is Coming To Town (The Crystals).

Ringo did a Christmas album, there might be some inspiration there. ????❤️

One of Beatle John Lennon’s dreams in the music industry was to create a classic Christmas song. Undoubtedly, he was successful with the song “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” which is simultaneously a holiday song and plea for world peace.

Christmas songs I like are:

(1) German:
– “O Tannenbaum” (“O Christmas Tree”)
– “Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen” (You do sing it great in the video.)
– “Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”)
– “Guten Abend schön Abend, es weihnachtet sehr”
– “Leiste rieselt der Schnee” (“Snow Falls Softly at Night”)
– “Bald nun ist Weihnachtszeit”
– “O es riecht gut, o es riecht fein”
– “Am Weihnachtsbaum die Lichter brennen”
– “Sind die Lichter angezündet”
– “Guten Abend, schön Abend”
– “Lasst uns froh und munter sein”

(2) English
– “White Christmas”
– “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
– “Wonderful Christmas Time”
– “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”
– “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”
– “Feliz Navidad”
– “Fairytale of New York” (The Pogues)
– “Merry Christmas Everybody”
– “Mistletoe and Wine” (Cliff Richard)
– “Mary’s Boy Child” (Boney M.)
– “Stop the Cavalry” (Jona Lewie)
– “Blue Christmas” (Elvis Presley)
– “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
– “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree”
– “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
– “In the Bleak Mid-Winter”
– “Do They Know It’s Christmas” (Band Aid 20)
– “Auld Lang Syne”
– “O Come, Emmanuel”
– “Away in a Manger”
– “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
– “Tennessee Christmas” (Amy Grant)
– “Winter Wonderland”
– “O Holy Night” (Katie Melua)

I’m going to throw in another one for consideration. It popped up twice on a Christmas compilation I was listening to this morning. It’s titled A Christmas Love Song. Not a rocker. It’s a beautiful Johnny Mandel ballad written for the late, great Blossom Dearie. Then done about a year later in four part harmony by Manhattan Transfer. It would sound amazing by MLT.

I love this video! Great job! It really brightens my day and helps motivate me to get into the Christmas spirit. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Will be looking for that Christmas album one year! Lots of Love and a Very Merry Christmas to you all!!!!

I’ve been cramming as much Christmas music as possible into this last week. I do it every year, it seems. But this year I’m listening with possible MLT arrangements in mind. How big of a fan boy have I become? Anyway, for one of the first (and best) rock Christmas tracks is Brenda Lee’s Jingle Bell Rock. I think they’d slam dunk that one. For slower trad music, I concur that Silent Night really lends itself to a harmony treatment. And Rick, The Fritters is a great name for a band.

Now Jingle Bell Rock is a great suggestion! It’s weird that we never thought of that one when brainstorming the last few years. That’s why it’s so great to have this space here and get your ideas and input!

Silent Night is what we used to sing around the Christmas tree with our Austrian families each year, it’s the traditional staple song I’d say.

Hi Mona,

A slight correction. Bobby Helms recorded Jingle Bell Rock. Brenda Lee did Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (which is yet another possibility).

What a great Calander Subject.
There are so many Christmas Songs.
Snoopys Christmas, White Christmas, Step Into Christmas, So This Is Christmas, Chipmunk Christmas, Silent Night, just to name a few.
As for suggestions for you to do.
Silent Night ( in both German and English) since it was written in German, I think it would be fantastic to see you do it this way.
So this is Christmas, John Lennon. Enough Said
White Christmas, but I would like for you all to arrange it differently. Put your spin on it so to speak. Something along the lines of the Fritters version perhaps. Could be Fantastic
Jingle Bells, again so many directions this could go in.
There’s Always Tomorrow, from Rudolf TV movie. Beautiful song
A few ideas to toss around.
Regardless what you come up with I know it will be Amazing
Thanks Ladies for this great subject

Love it… Warmed me up indeed from my Wacky Winter Wonderland going on here???????? in my neck of woods…. I have plenty of Xmas faves… Your versions first and foremost then… Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
(I’m of Irish – Scot heritage)- hence appreciation for the tone of humour in song) ????????????????…. O Holy Night… I Saw Three Ships… Give Love For Xmas… And many others but these off top of my still half asleep morning awakened brain… Eric took Fab pix of ta btw????????????????????????????❤️????????????⛄☃️❄️????????

My favorite Christmas song of all time is “Little Saint Nick” by the Beach Boys. The bouncy, cheery happy tune always brings a smile and would fit you perfectly. It is also a secret Christmas wish of mine to hear you cover it, as I can hear your beautiful harmonies layered throughout the song in the same way you and Papa Rudi did in your beautiful rendition of “God Only Knows” a few years back. It also would be such an amazing treat to hear you make it all your own. Thank you for asking! 🙂

I thought of this one too this morning. With the harmony posibilities the MLT could do an interesting fun version of their own like sir Pauls Wonderful Christmas Time.

That’s an interesting suggestion! You’re right, it’s probably one of the most cheerful Christmas songs out there – that Beach Boys joy! We’d certainly love to do another Beach Boys song one day!

Some great photos capturing your expressions so nicely. There is something about black and white photos that really get to the heart of things that I like.

When performing music, those cold bugs must always be a concern before a big show or important interview, but you both seem very resilient and tough it out, and don’t let it stop you from your music. Very admirable! The last dozen vacation trips I took, I’ve been jinxed with catching a cold just before or during the trip, and it’s so frustrating because you have no control over it. For this last trip, I went on a vitamin C regiment several weeks prior and that seemed to help.

As for Christmas songs, I enjoy the more traditional ones. The one that come to mind is the beautiful Greensleeves inspired “What Child is this”. For a generally Rock/Pop audience, I wouldn’t have suggested it before, but after your sublime “Little Drummer Boy”, this one perhaps could be wonderfully beautiful too. Can’t believe it’s the 20th already and Christmas is nearly upon us.

Auspiciously, I just listened to this last night and so I definitely expect a studio version on your future Christmas album. Not being all that into Christmas carols until I started listening to yours, I don’t know off the top of my head any songs that I think would be suitable for you but I do remember one from the sixties that I liked. It was a version from a Salvation Army pop group (four piece) of ‘Marys Boy Child’. Just love your live version of ‘Winter Wonderland’ and don’t think you really need to re-record it.
