Christmas Market Radio Show 2014 – Radio Interview

It was our first Christmas in the UK …

… and we got invited by radio presenter Mike Sweeney to join him for his Christmas radio show on BBC Radio Manchester at the Christmas market at Albert Square.

Meanwhile we’ve been on his show many times over the years and you’ve probably seen us post interviews with him before. He’s introduced our music to many Mancunians listening to his programme. He truly is, as they might say, a dead sound lad! 😉

Let’s start at the beginning in 2014!

Despite both of us having a full-fledged cold (demonstrated by the coughs throughout the show 😉 ) and having to get up super early at subfreezing temperatures we loved being there and getting to soak in the serene atmosphere at the Christmas markets so early that morning.

Fresh air, good company, a nice hot tea, some music and a little bit of Christmas magic makes you forget that tickling throat for a bit.

Have any of you been to any Christmas markets yet? Let’s talk in the comments!

On the show there have been other artists and lots of talking as well. If you rather hear the songs we played on the show please use these time marks in the audio player:01:40 – Winter Wonderland

06:45 – When I’m Sixty-Four

10:10 – That’s All Right, Mama (ft. Mike Sweeney)

This was wonderful! Makes ones Christmas so enjoyable no matter the time of year.
As Ed said we don’t have markets here for Christmas, however we do have strip malls ( collection of little stores in a row or in a small parking lot) the songs. You were singing such a nice collection of songs thank you for including all of us in your special memories. ????❤

Nobody brings bigger smiles to our faces during the holiday season than the two of you. As described by some of the other comments we don’t really have Christmas Markets here in the States but if lucky we are able to find some usually smaller stores who really do a genuinely nice job of conveying the true Christmas feeling and season. I do love the shots of the two of you at the market in your “Wonderful Christmastime” video a couple of years back – it looked like a fun experience!
On another note, I always enjoyed the videos of you having Mike Sweeney join you onstage at the Cavern to cover his Beatle favorites. It really looked like you made his dream of doing such a thing come true!

That was a charming show. I loved the beginning with Mona coming on and saying “I’m the younger twin, unfortunately by 5 minutes” and Lisa following up and saying “I’m the older, wiser, the mature twin…”. That was just so cute and priceless! I just cracked up . You were both real troopers, dedicated to your music, to come out braving your soar throats and the cold singing. You both still sounded just wonderful! Where I am there are a couple of Christmas Markets that have popped up in the recent years, but I haven’t really been in the mood the last number of years to celebrate Christmas, but your music has sparked that Christmas spirit this year. Found myself listening to your 4 Christmas songs to work on the train this morning. That hasn’t happened in years. Thanks.

Well… The Byward Market and downtown Ottawa is nicely decorated up for Christmas and there a few indoor Farmer’s Markets that offer up Christmas goodies… And we have Christmas craft shows going on at a few recreation / convention centre’s around the city… The Rideau Canal getting prepped up for another outdoor skating season. ????????????⛄

They really don’t have Christmas Markets here. Mostly stores that start selling Christmas merchandise right after Labor Day ( first Monday in Sept.) There are Flea Markets and Antique Stores, and some Christmas 365 Stores but that’s about it.
You all were kind enough to share some Christmas Markets a couple of years ago with your Christmas Cover.
We do have Black Friday which is basically a stampede from shoppers that camp put all night to be the first in the store at 6 am.

Such troopers. Slugging out the tunes even when under the weather. That’s called a solid work ethic. I know you all have done a lot with Mike over the past 4 years and he’s been keen on getting the word out about your music so I’m sure you didn’t want to disappoint and not make it to the show since you obviously have a good time working with Mike.

Don’t know if we have anything like a Christmas Market here in Florida. I suppose all the madness involved with Black Friday may be a close comparison but I think it sounds a bit more civilized and festive in England. Here it is a mad house and I totally avoid those sales.
