If You Raise Your Head – Early Access (Video)

Official Release Date: 22 January 2023

This is now the 6th song off our new album WHY? that gets a video! We didn’t necessarily plan to do so many but we just can’t stop … we already have plans for a few more. 😉

“If You Raise Your Head” was penned during the second wave of lockdowns last year.

It’s the first time we have ever used a talk box on a recording, that’s the “thing” Lisa is using while playing her guitar solo. What’s happening here is that the sound of the guitar gets directed into Lisa’s mouth through a plastic tube where she can alter the way it resonates and therefore sounds by changing the shape of her mouth. The microphone then picks it up from there. You don’t see talk boxes around much anymore but we felt it fit the sound we were going for perfectly.

It’s also the first time we ever featured a Hammond rock organ sound so prominently in a song!

Hope you enjoy the studio video!

See ya next week,
Mona & Lisa

  1. I needed to comment again. The more I see this, the more I love this song. I think I need to edit my “favorite song” on my profile!

  2. As always, I’m late to comment – but what an awesome video! Rudi on the keys and Lisa on the talk box – I’ve always loved the talk box. Mona, your vocals are perfect as always! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  3. Team MLT Rules!

Despite the recent issues with the U.K. Postal Service, my “If You Raise Your Head” studio scribble arrived today! Love it!

The format of the scribble is so cool with varied verses that were going through your brains. Seeing the process, the ideas, and the chords puts an extra dimension in the finished work!

Of course, the numbering and the signatures of Mona and Lisa make it complete…even more complete with Papa Rudi’s autograph…his keyboard playing and bass chops are awesome, along with Mona’s percussion and Lisa’s Telecaster! Finally, oh, that talk box!

As we all know, everything was put together with Michaela’s organization and filming skills!

To all of you, as always, many thanks!

  4. For the last few days I’ve been thinking about songs that used the talk box and it finally struck me. The band America issued an album in ’75 called Hearts. The song Company has a very good talk box. The album was produced by Sir George Martin so you know it’s worthy of your attention. Check it out! Can you see the MonaLisa Twins doing their cover of this song? I can and it would be fabulous. You’ve got to have a dream.

  5. This is fantastic ladies and Papa. It’s an all out MLT jam session. I can’t get enough of it. Even when I shut off the music to do something else it stays in my head. Thanks for the music.

  6. “If You Raise Your Head” is sounding better and better every time I hear it.
And the video is such a “feel good” video, largely due to the sweet personalities of the lovely Twins and the music.
    Fantastic Job.
    Bobby S.

  7. It’s such a good song plus the video brings an added dimension to it. I appreciate it every time you give such great credit to the important team members of yours! I was especially delighted by the vocal component of Lisa’s solo – I had missed it totally!!!

  8. I loved every aspect of this song, the splendid instruments, the superb video production and the fun you convey with this song. Simply said, “Well Done Again!!!”

As always, “Thanks For the Memories.”

  9. Great song! It has that Muscle Shoals, Swamper sound from Alabama in the US. They played the best R&B around. Great job!

  10. I love this video! It would be really cool to be a fly on the wall at one of your recording sessions, just to see how everything comes together. It was great to see Papa Rudi smokin’ the keys, too!

  11. I love everything about the new video! Great vocals, Great tracks! Good to see Papa Rudi in the video with you again! Such a talented family! Best wishes!!!

  12. Hi Team MLT. I love the studio videos where we can watch you playing and recording your fantastic songs, though I’m sure there’s lots of unseen “magic” going on behind the scenes. Seeing your awesome instrument versatility and expertise enhances the music no end and it’s clear how much you enjoy the process. It’s also great to see Papa Rudi playing and the closeness and humour you share. Could you maybe include Michaela in the next one? The Questionable video is hilarious but I’d love to know how you produce that percussive twiddle (sounds like castanets?) at the beginning. I hope you might do a studio video of that at some point. Thanks for being a constant feel good go-to-place in my life. Xx💕

  13. Fantastic groove, dear twins ! The drums and percussion are really cooking. The talk box was very popular in the 70s. Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh used it a lot. David David Gilmour use it still in the song “Talk To Me”. In the Eagles´song “Those Shoes” (from “The Long Run” album) you can hear two talk box guitars when both Joe Walsh and Don Felder use it, Rudi´s Hammond is cool. I have always loved that sound. Great song!!

  14. Yes! Mona, Lisa, and Papa Rudi at work in the studio. Love this video. And such a great song. Man, you all really outdid yourselves on “Why?”!

  15. I love the way this kind of pulls the album together with a rhythmic similarity to the opening Make Show piece. It’s a cool unique Groove.

  16. I love this song. it is good to see you playing together, the New Year begins very well, I love the guitar solo with Lisa and the drums with Mona and not forget the bass and keyboards with Papa Rudi. A very good job. Merci.

  17. I was mesmerized by this song the first time I heard it on the CD. But now OMG!
Mona’s animation in the vocal track you can’t see from the CD, but I will now every time I listen to it. The percussion (both drums and bongos) is perfect! Lisa really rocks out with the talk box, so nice to see (and hear) her cutting loose and stepping out with it! Since I harken back to the days of Peter Frampton’s “Comes Alive” album that pretty much woke up the world to this enhancement, and the likes of Joe Walsh that still uses it on ever stage he appears on, it’s obvious there’s still a real place for them.
Rudi, you never cease to amaze me, you gave those keys a tremendous voice, thank you!
Quite often I will take some of my favorite recordings and listen to them in the total darkness and just lose myself in the flow of the music. Now when I close my eyes or do the darkness playback, I will see this performance since it is forever engraved in my memory.
In the vernacular of my Irish ancestors “Mo sheacht mbeannacht ort!” (My seven blessings on you!)
I know it’s a boatload of work, but keep them coming, please!

  18. What a way to start the day love this with its excellent groove and beautifully recorded too I almost spilt my coffee dancing 😁

  19. Yesterday I posted a quick comment and today I’ve been reading all the other comments. So many want to compare your music to others but, I say NO. There is nothing like a MonaLisa Twins original. This music is drop-dead COOL! I’m sure I can speak for every club member and scream BRAVO, BRAVO!!…….Oh,by the way, Lisa, it occurred to me that Framton may need to dye his hair red because it sounds like he has some Serious competition. And you may have a new admirer.
Best Wishes to You All & to everyone in the Clubhouse!
    Charles

    1. Hi Charles,
I do not want to take away from your humorous comment, but the last time I saw Peter Frampton he was pretty bald. lol
He did have such a nice, big, blonde head of hair in his younger days.
      Bobby S.

      1. Hi Bobby,
        Thanks for your reply.
I have not seen a photo of Mr. Framton lately but, I’m sure he has the money to buy a red wig. LOL… I just wanted Miss Lisa to know how great the music was and that I’m her biggest cheerleader.
        Charles

  20. I love this song and video – but I am finding the volume level on this track a little quiet compared to other MLT songs on YouTube even at max volume on my laptop and headphones. Maybe you can crank up the volume a bit for the YT release? x

      1. Great – thanks Mona, now I can enjoy it even more as I like to listen to your music with everything turned up to 11! x

  21. WOW! What a GREAT video!!! Lisa on the Telecaster! LOVE seeing Mona playing her drums!!! Papa Rudi rockin’ out on the keys and bass! WONDERFUL! Great first video of 2023!

  22. That was Frikkin Awesone…. Loved it !!!! Such innovative music carnation concepts incorporated and intertwining going in here, and it all captures the spirit of the song perfectly along with the bonus presence of Papa Rudi included here….Quite #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified I am and indeed it is all around … Kudos on this exquisite musical ride creatively…. 🤘💜👍

  23. Well it’s 8:18 Saturday morning…just back from the Waffle House reading the paper and enjoying breakfast…and now it’s time to watch this great new video 4 or 5 more times to get motivated to do something productive for the day…but I gotta “lift my head and take a look around” to see what must be done😂❤️🧡

      1. Yeah boy…the All-Star Special…2 eggs…hashbrowns …a choice of.bacon sausage ham..waffles…coffee….what a way to get the day started😂

  24. We love this song. It’s great seeing Mona on the drums. It would be great to see a full band live performance of any song off of Why? Laura Marling, for her album “Short Movie”, did just that. In studio live versions of her new songs. If no live shows are on the horizon anytime soon, this would be a way to quench your fans thirst to see you perform live. I can dream, can’t I? Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Enjoy.

  25. I agree with James BESZHAK.
Definitely shades of Pete Frampton, but very professional. Very easy to listen to.

  26. Very interesting sounds indeed! I love the backstage vibes of this music video. Very well done, and great to hear there’s more to come!!

  27. So like Billy Butler said on the radio way back in the day, “MonaLisa Twins with full band!” The organ is so compelling. Sort of R n’ B, and sort of “Classic Rock” but better, where 1 + 1 makes 3. I’m inclined to ask, if by now, Mona and/or Lisa, given you’ve been hanging around a keyboard player all your life; have either of you been dabbling, (or for that matter, more than dabbling), on those black and white keys? How could you resist?

    1. I can play a mean version of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and the “Flea Walz”, does that count? 😉 We both understand the piano and can use it to figure out chords etc. but neither of us have ever played it enough to get any good.
Maybe one day, it’d just take some time! Glad you like the new song!

      1. Sure Mona, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” & the “Flea Waltz” count. Both are classics. Everyone has to start somewhere.
It would be cool if you ever have the time to learn “Heart and Soul”. Maybe you & your dad could play it together. Or even better, maybe you & Lisa could make it a duet.
        Bobby S.

  28. Well shades of Peter Frampton. Pretty amazing there Lisa. And Mona on drums for the first time in a long time. Papa Rudi too. This was great fun to watch – much like it looked like fun to make. Thanks for making my – and I’m sure many others – day.

  29. You guys were obviously having a great time playing and filming this, and it’s catching – I had a great time watching and listening. This song would be ideal for a live show.

I’m constantly learning things from your videos: this time it’s what a talk box is and how it works – I never would have guessed.

… And what was that karate looking stuff between Mona and Dad?

This one gets three thumbs up. (Oops, earthlings only have two thumbs.)

  30. I see awesomeness all around! What a fantastic video! 🤩

I keep watching to find new things. Love seeing Mona on the drums too. It’s a great match to a fantastic song. So much fun. That Roland has a great Hammond sound and well played! Those glissandos whether with the elbow or fingers, always hurt!
I was wondering what wah pedal Lisa was using, wrong again! What awesome use of the talk-box! Also Lisa with the ponytail shows how short her hair is now!

Really, really great video. Love it! and great headphones too.
What a lovely and upbeat way to start the year!
    Thank you!

  31. Who has more fun than you guys? Mona finds a cool groove, Papa Rudi doing his best Steve Winwood and Lisa lost in her element with a new toy. That equals a Cool Jam. OO OOO!

  32. Let me start off by saying that, no matter what device or speakers I play this song on, I seem to always be compelled to turn the volume up -A LOT!!! It is music that seems to lift me out of whatever reality I am engaged in and just takes me away to the most groovy place possible. It starts strong and becomes undeniable. It is musical magic. I can’t get enough. This is Killer!

    1. I love this song and video – but I am finding the volume level on this track a little quiet compared to other MLT songs on YouTube. Maybe they can crank it up a bit for the YT release?

      1. Hey, great video of a great track from a great album by the BEST duo/family combo around. And a reference to Spinal Tap as a bonus.I can sleep happily now.

  33. Great video. Lisa you took me back to seeing Peter Frampton use the talk box on show me the way. Loved every second of it. Papa Rudi’s elbow slide had me laughing so much but it looked painful.

  34. I love seeing the joy on your faces when you’re singing and playing. That feeling is infectious (the good kind of infectious).

  35. Holy Jumpin’ Joseph that was FANTASTIC…Mona great job on lead vocals and drums…Lisa way to bend those strings and use the talk box…every time I hear it I think of Harrison’s WAH-WAH sound from the All Things Must Pass triple album…and Papa Rudi tickling’ the ivories…elbow hurt…that was funny…and of course an excellent bass guitar…on these kind of videos I love watching each person doing their thing …it almost makes it a “live” stage performance….let’s see…12 songs 6 videos…you’re halfway there….this video just might get you your very first million views from an original song…most of the views just might be mine….this video just rocks with excitement…WELL DONE and Thank You for doing it ❤️🧡

  36. What a great video! It certainly highlights your family’s musical talent and the video productions themselves just get better and better.

  37. The more I watch, wow!!! It looks like Lisa is pushing the guitar to it’s absolute limits, look at those strings bend, and the effect with the talk box, it all sounds so incredible, I don’t think Hendriks nor Clapton could create a purer guitar magic moment. The dueling guitar vs Hammond moment between Lisa and Papa Rudi is joyful to watch. I could watch Mona drumming all day, such rhythmic grace and perfection! Love it so much! 💛🧡💜👍

  38. This video has it all:

    1. Mona doing lead vocals and jamming on her drum kit and bongos.
    2. Lisa playing her Telecaster (my favorite guitar) and doing her solo with her Gretsch and a talk box.
    3. Papa Rudi performing on the keys and slapping the Hofner.

It does not get any better than this. Love the videos that show the true musicianship of Mona, Lisa, and Papa Rudi. “If You Raise Your Head” is a gift; the video is a privilege to watch.

    Thank you Team MLT!

  39. I am naive musically, but this song and video lead me to believe that we in MLT club are privy to one of the most talented and (as of yet) underappreciated team of performers out there. Well done!

  40. You Chicks Rock!
We loved this song with the first listen. The talk box is perfect here. It’s so kool how you can literally shape the notes. I love when Lisa trades lick with Rudi. The bass playing is outstanding throughout the album.

Yes, we get to see Mona playing the drums! Her vocals aren’t too shabby either. So is everybody ready? When they play this live the audience shall raise their hands when Lisa and Mona raise their hands.

This song makes a nice ear wig, too. Tell me what your see, tell me what you see.

Merch idea: t-shirt with the “Tell me what you see” slogan displayed in Why? graphics. (just a thought)

    Marlo & JP

So much soul with the Hammond!

  41. Great tune, ladies. A technical question if you don’t mind. I’m assuming you use ProTools (or do you?). If so, how many individual tracks were used on “Raise Your Head”? Just wondering….

    Stay groovy,

    Steve

    1. Hi Steve! We used Cubase as the DAW for this album and I just had a look, for “If You Raise Your Head” we used 16 tracks …

      4 x guitars
      2 x Keys
      7 x Vocals
      Drums
      Bongos
      Bass

Oh, the fun of unlimited tracks 🙂

      1. Wooo hoooo!! I won a bet by being closest. I had guessed 19 tracks. Good job on that song. Really fun.

        Steve

  42. Thanks for the first peek at the this new video!! We all have our favorites on the new Why album, but after listening to it many times, I have settled on this song as my personal fav. Ive mentioned before that I love the bluesy sound of this song and until I saw the video I had no idea that Lisa was using a talk box, even though I had seen Peter Frampton use one in the 70’s, I didn’t pick up on it. In fact I had ask during the live stream if some of the idea had some come from some SRV solo’s and Lisa told me no. Now I get it, the amazing sound came from the talk box and not a guitar pedal. I thought Mona’s vocals on this song were exceptional too. No matter what inspired your girls to come up with the ideas for this tune, it has turned out to be one of my very favorite MLT songs ever. As others have mentioned it was great to see Papa Rudi in the video as well as both of you(hope his elbow is ok!). Now that I can watch this and blast it with a blue tooth boom box Ill enjoy it even more. I tip my hat to both of you for the hard work you put into this song and video. In a word it’s …….AWESOME!!!!

    1. Thanks, Kevin! I agree, if Lisa would have used a wah-wah pedal instead, that would have been much more SRV!
It was great getting Dad in front of the camera, the organ is so important in that song and we had a blast recording it together. 🙂

  43. Loved that the video shows you guys in “studio recording mode.” I don’t remember seeing that before. The music and arrangement brings back hints of Sly Stone funk w/Rolling Stones “cooing.” And the lyrics raise the conscience. Give it 5 out of 5. Peace be.

  44. Thank you!
As a freedom nut, I absolutely LOVE the messaging of this song! Hopefully there a videos of the songs Why and Jump Ship to follow 😀

      1. Cool driving video, Tobias. We had our big winter storm in Western New York State from December 23 through December 27. “When You Raise Your Head” was the perfect background music for such an occasion. Intense music for an intense driving situation. Hope that you arrived home both safe and sound!

      2. Western New York is fairly close. This was Christmas Eve. And yes, we did get there in one piece 🙂

      3. That’s one nasty snow storm, it reminds me of the wintery conditions we used to get on the roads back in Austria! I’m glad you made it through alright and that our music could give you company, fellow freedom nut! 🙂

  45. Great video. Amazing magic. A comment in the Album “Why?”….it would be nice to see a list of who is playing what

    1. In most cases it’s Lisa on lead guitar and vocals, Mona on rhythm guitar, drums/percussion and vocals and our dad Rudi on Bass and Keys. If we find the time we might go through it song by song one day and write it all down. 🙂

      1. As the band matures and expands their musical repertoire, something like liner notes become increasingly helpful, both so we can track the expanding array of instruments and so we can give due credit to Rudi. This could be captured and posted on the site with lyrics for each album, with the url referenced on the back cover of each original CD.

  46. And this is why I always say what ever Mona and Lisa do? It is worth the wait. What a great song / video and seeing Pa Rudi! Love this for many reasons, original, shades of Peter Frampton / Rolling Stones wo wo, great guitar riffs in which Mentioned earlier that Keith Richards said if you have a good riff? You can go anywhere and you ladies proved that with this song, wow! I like Gerry can imagine more videos from this land mark album WHY? Love it to bits Mona and Lisa and please keep it coming and have a great weekend.
Hugs and Love from Me and Maddie
Huge fans from Pittsburgh PA USA

  47. Love the video and the song. Good to see Rudi in there. Enjoyed the talk box. Can’t wait to see the other videos.

  48. Yes, I enjoyed it!!! And, that’s putting it mildly. I was BLOWN AWAY!!
First, I love the song. I also, loved seeing Rudi in there! And, you girls are so accomplished and talented. Loved, loved, loved the video. Awesome and Groovy!! 🙂

  49. Oh wow, we get to see Mona, Lisa, and Papa Rudi in the studio showing off their amazing musicianship, so awesome love it! See Lisa work her magic on the guitar and that talk box, impressive, such amazing guitar sounds, and Mona doing the lead vocals and rocking to the music with her hands up looks so awesome, and love seeing the superb drumming. Rudolf on the keyboard rocking on is priceless. Your amazing rock and roll prowess just shine so brilliantly here, all 3 of you, absolutely loved this.

If you Raise Your Head is such a magnificent rock and roll song with brilliant vocals, amazing guitar effects, superb drumming…it’s perfection. Love that howling funky guitar sounds. The song together with the lyrics for these times has so much substance and meaning! Rock and roll at it’s best, and so sorely missed these days, no one does it like you can! Thanks MLT, the video and musicianship here is just amazing. Love what you do, this is why we are all here! ✨🎶🎸🧡

  50. Lisa, someday you will have to explain to us non-playing fans how a talk box is integrated with your guitar and how it works.
I remember it being a thing in the 70’s with Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh, but never understood how it was done.

    1. Lisa’s guitar goes into a pedal, and the direct sound of her guitar comes out of the pedal through a tube which is picked up by her mic. By changing the shape of her mouth, she can change the sound of her guitar. I have never used one, but when I was a kid my guitar teacher told me that some guitarists complained that it vibrated their teeth too much. I think his exact words were,”It shook there the tweeth out”.”

David Gilmour used one a on a few Pink Floyd songs. Here he is on the song “Keep Talking” “For millions of years mankind lived just like the animals. And then something happened. We learned to talk.”

      https://youtu.be/4DmsvdCPD2Y?t=127

  51. What a great sound with the “talk box” and Gretsch. It blends so well within the context of the song, not as separate sound away from the main melody. If that makes sense. I like these videos where we can see how you record your songs and the different instruments you use. That’s a sweet Telecaster also. Cool song, Great video.

  52. Talking without thinking…
It seems there are 2 types of videos. One is where you are telling a story (I Bought Myself a Politician, Questionable, Songbird). The others are more performance based like this one, Lola, Please Please Me.
I have enjoyed every video you ladies have ever made, but I think of the two formats, I like ones like this one better. There always seems to be an abundance of joy in the room when you perform. I greatly enjoy watching your technical artistry when you play your instruments and stand in front of the mike. The interplay between Lisa and Papa Rudi was magic, and Mona holding down the fort with a solid backbeat.
You don’t have to make all videos this way, but when you do, I get the same vibes I get when I watched the Beatles on Its a Hard Days Night and Help.

    1. Tim, I seem to like these videos too. The artsy type videos are entertaining for sure and shows us these two are very talented and innovative in that area as well, but I enjoy seeing the different instruments and how they are used. I could actually watch a video of Lisa’s hands playing her guitar through a whole video.

    2. Hi Tim…let’s not forget those Duo Sessions where the girls strip down a fully instrumented song and then just sit on a bench and give us some really superb songs with just the two guitars…and maybe Mona on the accordion or keeping the beat on a cajon …or bass guitar…or ukulele..Lisa plays a “gitjo” in one song..she refers to it as a drum with strings….Lisa also has a beautiful way of playing lead and bass at the same time while Mona sings and plays rhythm…their Duo Sessions are something they could actually take on the road and start playing publicly…..but like you Tim I really enjoy their videos where it shows them playing their instruments and singing…and I think Papa Rudi should be in more of these type of videos doing his thing…yes it’s the MonaLisa Twins but there’s 4 people…Papa Rudi and Michaela….Michaela can play keyboards and saxophone…Michaela even made a guest appearance in the BABY MINE video…gosh I love what they do !

    3. Much agreed, Tim. Videos like this highlights the pure musicianship of Mona, Lisa, and Papa Rudi. It is why I am such a big fan of the Duo Sessions. Nothing beats the prowess of Team MLT playing their instruments!

  53. This is the only song on the Why? album for which my brain struggled to summon a suitable visual to accompany it. Problem solved now!

I hadn’t heard of a talk box before. Pretty cool effect! Now I’m probably going to get lost in a sea of YouTube videos that show off people’s creativity with it.

    1. Hi Dave,
Yes there are a bunch of bands who used the talk box. Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Joe Walsh, and others. I think you will enjoy some of them.
      Take care,
      Bobby S.

  54. I was only watching Joe Walsh using the Tube last week in an Eagles Gig.
Great song , Mona looks like she is having so much fun making the video, not forgetting the lovely Lisa of course.
Nice to have you back x

    1. Oh cool, I hope you enjoyed the gig! We both had a great time recording and filming this one. We’re back with full force working on new videos now 🙂

  55. Great song and very cool video. That’s one of my favorites from “WHY”. Nice surprise appearance by Rudi, hallo, Rudi! Another winner!

  56. Everything about this is quite superb. The musicianship as always is flawless. Fantastic video. What resonates with me is the lyrics on this album. “If you raise your head, take a look around you” etc. This is so mature, leading the way and comments on what is going on around us in these crazy times . Take your head out of the sand and think for yourself. Words of wisdom. Thank you for this and I am running out of superlatives. Best wishes

  57. Hello Ladies!
    This is so cool!
    Loved Lisa’s Breathing Tube 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
So many layers and such a catchy tune! Can’t stop putting this on replay.
Hit a homerun on this one.
Great to see Papa Rudi In the video. He’s tearing up the keyboards on the. Hammond for If You Raise Your Head.
Mona I love seeing you playing your drums anytime. And that vest you were wearing is straight from the Sixties. Lisa as always you blow our minds with your incredible guitar work.
    Thanks Ladies.continued all the best.
    Rick Ross

  58. That’s pretty darn great!!! So much fun, so much joy, so much wisdom and so much talent. Thx Mona & Lisa et al. on such a fantastic video. Not every video needs to be overwhelming in its technology. Some times the bare naked truth is enough and appropriate. This video conveys precisely the actual meaning of the song!! There are so many people who need to take their heads out of the sand and actually see what is really going on around them. It’s too eay to get comfortable in your own click, group, organization, club, faith, nationality etc. Someone better lift their head or we will just march off the cliff!! If you don’t think that is your job maybe you should should look deeper into your soul.

  59. That was so good and so much fun! Love to see you all getting in to the music! You are all so talented on several instruments. Papa Rudi rocks!

  60. This one demonstrates you are capable of creating music on a broad range of musical styles. This one is definitely driving and sassy. Made me want to get up and dance! Nice work!

  61. Well done, Ladies and Papa! Excellent musicianship and technical apps. I loved the talk box… yes, you certainly don’t hear them much these days, but it worked great!

  62. Absolutely loved that. And great to see you both having fun making the video with Papa Rudi. And yes it was Peter Frampton that used the guitar tube- I’ve still got the vinyl LP.

    1. Hi Dave,
Peter Frampton was and is a fine musician & guitar player. I met him a while back and he is really a great guy – very down-to-earth. The last CD that I bought of his, about 10 years ago, is a totally instrumental album. Not too shabby.
      Bobby S.

  63. Words of Wisdom from millenials here in the 21st century.
All those who-hoos are a nice touch. Slightly satanic.
A big thumbs up to that session musician doing double duty.
    Cheers

      1. Tobias,
the background woo-hoos are reminiscent of The Stones Sympathy for the devil. I am guessing that this was deliberate.

  64. Great song. I remember talk boxes (I think we called them voice boxes) being used some years ago. If memory serves I think Peter Frampton used them.

  65. Papa Rudi you rock !!! got to get you in a few more videos, love the song ladies you get better and better each time so glad i can help support you, very up lifting song and video

  66. Wonderful video from the studio. Reminds me a bit of the Beatles Hey Bulldog video in its setting and ambience. I think this is one of Mona and Lisa’s most groovy numbers with of course great keyboards and bass from Rudi. Mona leads it so well with her amazing singing and percussion throughout and everyone looks to be having a ball, just as it should be. Just have to get the image of trains going past out of my head though!!  Great work.

  67. Thank you for the glimpse of the studio showing the fun and love that went into the song. It shows in the final product! Love the music, love the message, love the video! 🙂

  68. I just watched this video about 20 times & notice something new every time. There is so much going on in this song. The talk box fits this song perfectly! Mona is great on drums, Lisa is great on guitar, Papa Rudi is great on keys & bass. Looks like you all had a fantastic time making the video. It’s my new favorite video. (at least until the next one) Love it!!!

  69. Love this Song! From the first time I heard this song , It’s an Uplifter a great start for Weekend. Thank you for sharing! liked Papa Rudi’s attempt of doing the Lennon elbow slide on the keys.

  70. Oh yeah! Great video of a great song! I wondered if Lisa was using an effects pedal during the guitar solo. I love the voice box. The last time I remember hearing one was on the album Frampton Comes Alive. (Show Me the Way and Do You Feel Like I do). Mona’s drumming and Papa Rudi killing it on the keyboard! Is there anything you guys can’t do?

    1. Hi Michael,
Yes those are great Peter Frampton songs. I remember Richie Sambora, with Bon Jovi, using a Framptone Talkbox in the song “Livin’ on a Prayer”.
As was mentioned by another member, Joe Walsh has used one.
Also, if anyone wants to look further, if you google it – there are many other bands who have used one. Take care,
      Bobby S.

  71. Excellent Video! Just love the videos you guys do in the sound studio. Love even more watching Miss Mona play the drums……you go girl!!!

  72. I just enjoyed the video. Excellent. It transported me to that recording room, I felt like I was there during the studio recording. Great job by Lisa on guitar, Mona great on drums, Papa Rudi great on keyboards and bass. Have a nice family day.

  73. Amazing! This has been one the songs from Why? that plays in my head on a constant loop. On my first few listens I heard it as a bit of a direct companion to Make Show. They both have a similar groove in my mind. The video is fantastic. I enjoy seeing everyone having such a good time in the studio. Props to Papa Rudi out of costume and on the keys. I’m really looking forward to being able to share this when it goes public!

    1. Hi Nicola,
You can buy a talk box on Ebay (lol).
I had a box that adjusted reverb and provided echo. It was great.
I never used a talk box, but it does look like fun.
      Take care,
      Bobby S.

  74. WOW!!! Loved this song when I first heard it,now the video has Blown Me Away!!!
Mona’s drumming, and bongos are simply amazing. As is Lisa’s guitar work(love the Talk Box),and Papa Rudi laying down the bass & organ groove, just give this song an Amazing vibe.
Love the album, can’t wait to see what you all have coming our way next.

As Always,Love & Hugs to All

    Tom

  75. This was a fascinating video to watch! I’ve never heard of a talk box before and to see Lisa using it was intriguing. Getting a glimpse into how a song I love came together gave me a whole new appreciation for the complexity of the recording process. Best of all was seeing how much fun Mona and Lisa have with their dad while making music!

    1. Daddy/Daughters time…and boy, did the three of them enjoy it (I am sure that Michaela did as well). It is wonderful watching all of them enjoying their craft. The “Labor of Love” paradigm clearly was evident!

  76. Can’t help but point out Mona’s amazing drum work, both on kit and on bongos. The whole “Why?” album is driven by her striking percussion, much more noticably than your previously released originals. Of course, all the vocals: lead, backing and harmony, are perfection on display! We often take all these aspects, also guitars and PapaRudi’s awesome bass and keyboard included, for granted. Not to mention the professional production quality of the vids! Unforgivable but understandable since you all share them with us so unselfishly! I know Mom will love this video when I show it to her on the big screen tv! She may be 85, but she can’t hide her admiration (crush❤️) for Rudolf! 😉

  77. ENCORE!!! Great lead Mona, Papa Rudi great keys, Riffs are really good especially on the box Lisa and the drums Mona were right on!!!! It definitely tells a story. A song meant for this album. Way to go!!!! How many tracks did you record on? Stay Groovy

  78. MARVELOUS! Not knowing loads about instrumentation, I had no idea where that funky guitar sound came from! LOVE it! This was an outstanding song before, but the video and insight it provides endear it even more! Personality galore, and a somewhat rare peek at PapaRudi’s sense of humor (hope your elbow has recovered)! Of special, non-musical note is the muted, minimal makeup, natural look that lets your inherent beauty shine forth! OUTSTANDING!
