Jump Ship – Lyrics

Jump Ship

Take me underwater
Down where I can see
What it is they’re hiding in the dark and deep blue sea

Ripples on the surface
Information war
Sweeping from the ocean to the shore
Ohhhh

Want to hear the whispers
In the deep blue sea
How much information did they keep from you and me

Want to see the nature
The nature of the beast
The pact between the devil and the priest
Ohhh

I better jump ship
The big nice ship
Sometimes we have to take the ice-cold dip
Water, salt, the tide is turning
Let’s go
It won’t be an easy trip

Jump ship
The safe nice ship
Even though it’s gonna hurt a little bit
It feels so nice and warm on deck
But truth is
Staying here won’t save my neck

Take me underwater
Let the music fade
Lift the curtains, let me look behind the masquerade
Let me pass the surface
Dive into the deep
The bracing cold might wake me from my sleep

Jump ship
The big nice ship
Sometimes we have to take the ice-cold dip
Water, salt, the tide is turning
Let’s go
It won’t be an easy trip no

Jump ship
The safe nice ship
Even though it’s gonna hurt a little bit
It feels so nice and warm on deck
But truth is
Staying here won’t save my neck no

Jump ship
The big nice ship
Sometimes we have to take the ice-cold dip
Water, wind, the salt is burning
I know
That it won’t be an easy trip

Jump ship
Let’s take the ice cold dip
Jump ship
Though it might hurt a bit
The big nice ship
It’s nice and warm on deck
Jump ship
But staying here won’t save your neck

Ohhhhhh

  1. I just love this song. The lyrics are masterful and the musical arrangement is pure genius. The slide guitar makes it seem like I am floating at sea with those beautiful voices as the beacon that’s steering this ship. And every so often those popping drums are like splashes of water in the face, trying to wake me to hear the lyrics and understand the reality of the situation but I just want to remain floating in the abyss, unaware until the end, whatever that may be. The magic of MLT. Pure masterpiece

  2. I laughed. I cried… This hits a major artery – nobody else is singing about things that actually MATTER. Brings tears to the eyes to know someone is strong, bold, and awake enough to know that this message must get out there, and it certainly makes the red pill palatable for those still in the dark. Musically, the sharp, poignant, masterful lyrics arrangements and shifts just take you higher and higher. I could say that about any of the songs but this one – I just love the ‘jump ship…’ break – this is what a song is suposed to do – take you on a journey, give surprises, use tempo and key changes, tickle the eardrums – and heart. It’s like a sonic massage for the soul!! MLT is my new favorite group.

  3. Jump Ship •

This incredible composition is masterly written! The lyrics have a deep overtone which are applied to your own interpretation. Musically; it’s quite complex in the song’s structure; yet it’s “easy listening” of the; ♫”Ahh’s”♪; at the start have you captivated in a dream-like state. Lisa’s beautiful yet haunting vocals are stellar and have you transfixed; whilst Mona’s effective drums keep the groove. The creative drumming is outstanding and exceptionally played! (The prominent snare drum sounds superb!)

The song tends to send you drifting away, along with the evocative lyrics; until suddenly at 1:35; ♫”I better jump ship”♪. The change of mood is dramatic and it’s an awesome chorus! It has you hooked on the first listen. There is a zany-epigrammatic style of vocals (which needs to be heard); applied to the singing! It has a ‘David Bowie’ sound to it and the chorus is actually melodically quite powerful. The harmonies are sublime; whilst Mona’s drumming is cleverly arranged, driving the song along.

The music gets quite eerie at 3:34, as each line of the lyrics seems to climb up a semi-tone. It’s a fantastic effect and reflects the talent of creativity in songwriting. It really adds an atmosphere of tension; until Mona finally screams out at 3:45; ♫”But staying here won’t save your neck!”♪. — This is a sensational album track!

  4. MLT have penned some well-crafted allegorical lyrics with a current social commentary. And I hear influences from David Bowie.

  5. The more I listen to this the better I like it….I especially like that very last line..I think it’s Mona screaming “But staying here won’t save your neck”

  6. “The higher you fly, the deeper you go. The deeper you go, the higher you fly.”
These songs have so much depth, it’s turning out to be an amazing album.
I also like the graphic looking up at the boat, it says so much. 1000 of the right words.
    I just love it!

  7. Fab lyrics….perfect complimentary accompaniment to the tone/vibesense, etc of the music created, Indeed poetical, deep, makes one think, , well done and Kudos ????????

  8. Love the lyrics. A very apt song title noting the history of Liverpool as a sea port. Plenty of sailors “jumping ship” no doubt, particularly in the days of sail!

  9. Sometimes we get too comfortable in our own skin. We’re afraid to take a chance.
Everyday can be a learning experience if we look with our eyes open.
    Interesting lyrics.

  10. Hi Mona & Lisa. What a great song with a haunting tune and “open to interpretation” lyrics. There are plenty of ideas about their meaning but, to me – I never got on that ship but have been standing on shore waiting (praying) for others to “jump ship” before it’s too far gone to save themselves and swim back to safety.

  11. Thank you for this timely, “wake up” tune about a very troublesome trend in the lack of transparency and freedom of speech that exists among certain big tech companies that more and more people seem to be relying on for their information. I agree with what Elon Musk has recently been quoted as saying: “sunlight is the best disinfectant”.
I grew up in the 60’s when censorship was a big issue and many in the music industry were champions for openness and transparency for learning what was really happening in the world. I applaud you for choosing this theme for this wonderfully written and performed song. You are staying fresh and relevant without taking any particular side of any specific issue, and the music is just awesome. Thanks!

  12. It is amazing where the world is right now; you are definitely going to different dimensions in your writing!!! I love the fact that you are putting your feelers out and you know what people are enjoying it including me!! Way to go to all of you!!! I really like the song, not your best but hey, you’re writing abilities are definitely maturing!!! Thanks!

  13. I love the imagery in this song. I think it is true that a well written song can have different meanings to different people because we are all at different places on our journey. Yet I think you have brought out some universal truths here. I see the ship as the status quo, a place we need to escape if we are to ever find the deeper meanings in life. I think the change from minor to major key in the chorus gives a picture of that breaking point, making that decision to live your own life and make your own discoveries without fear. Well done ladies. I have loved every original on this album so far. Looking forward to the release of the album.

  14. Jump Ship is such an incredible and awesome song on so many levels from it’s brilliant
melody that instills a captivating and mysterious feel, to the singing that is amazing and so
    impactful.

The lyrics are so beautifully eloquent expressing how I’ve been feeling about this world, whether it’s the politics, environment, pandemic, intolerance etc, it underscores the deception and misinformation that is plaguing the world. “A pact between the devil and the priest”! Wow, lyrics are absolutely brilliant. The second verse for me is about waking up from this slumber and taking action, and not remaining status quo to the craziness that is gripping the world, “the nature of the beast”.

A great song is one that can have different meaning for everyone, but it’s the powerful vision that it evokes that makes it so great, and “Jump Ship” is a GREAT song indeed.

“Ripples on the surface, information war, sweeping from the ocean to the shore”. Wow, I can’t get over how poetic the lyrics are throughout.

“Lift the curtains, let me look behind the masquerade”. Yes indeed, thank you!

I find interesting how the chorus evolves slowly through the song: “But staying here won’t save your neck!!!!!” Wake up! So impactful, so inspiring. Love it.

Thanks for the lyrics, just adds to the AWEsome experience of this song. Jump Ship is a creative, artistic masterpiece! Absolutely love it.

I just like to let the song play in autoloop, can’t get enough of it.

  15. Hi girls….thanks for the lyrics because now I can correlate the the innuendos of Jump Ship and my mind makes this a “political” song about what’s happening everywhere in the world these couple years….what is it they’re hiding….information war…how much information did they keep from you and me……the pact between the devil and the priest….even tossed in a little from The Wizard of Oz with Lift the curtains let me look behind the masquerade……from two girls whom in the past would avoid politics and religion now have two songs on upcoming album concerning politics…I bought myself a politician and now Jump Ship…I must say ARTFULLY done regarding not taking sides but accurately describing the “issues”…..you’ve left behind the 60s for this album and have become more contemporary….I hope this all leads to a new and younger fan base…that’s where your future is…..I love what you do❤️????

  16. My humble opinion: The lyric are very timely at the present time here in the States. And I agree with Mona! (I can’t help laughing when she screams it out). I get a jazz vibe from the verses (not the bold lines). I love this song. Surprising to me the melody stays in my head! Stay groovy. Peace be.

  17. Anyone else hear a little “What’s Going On”? It was so distracting when I heard it a few weeks ago because I couldn’t place why it sounded familiar. This time I was able to fully enjoy it, and man, this is absolutely a solid add to the collection of beautiful things.

  18. Sometimes we have to take the ice cold dip….WOW! So true Mona and Lisa. That has happened to me during my life time , and stepping outside the box and leave the comfort zone for a bit to see your real character. You ladies are so amazing to us and your work speaks for itself. Love this song and so much to learn with the lyrics and again the drum work is great Mona, and Lisa your singing is spot on. I hope I got it right ? Lisa singing the lead? But so cool you share the lyrics with us and now we can sing along. A great way to start the weekend Ladies!! Thank you and keep it coming, and at this point I can honestly say this new album is worth waiting for, waiting patently. With some of the music you have been sharing with us? Wow I can see it will be a great album.
    Love and hugs from
Bill and Maddie Isenberg HUGE fans from Pittsburgh Pa USA

  19. “Silence when you have something to say is a lie, and tyranny feeds on lies. Of course, it’s easier in the moment to stay silent and avoid conflict. But in the long term, that’s deadly.” I’m not sure who said that but this song seems to embody the same spirit. Love this song. A call to action. Great job!

  20. I love this track. Definitely lyrics for the curious mind. This is as deep as some of Bowie’s work. Very well done. This could be your first no 1

  21. “Lift the curtains, let me look behind the masquerade”

There we go, the link to Questionable, Songbird, I Bought Myself a Politician, and Janitor Joe…perhaps?

  22. “BUT STAYING HERE WON’T SAVE YOUR NECK!”

That should be in all caps and in bold at the end of the lyrics.
    Well-screamed, Mona, well-screamed!
