The Why? album – excellent value and a great listen. These ladies never disappoint. Thanks for the music.

  2. Mark Neighbors

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the videos from this album but I think it would nice to see a bit more screen time for Mona when she plays drums. As a lifelong musician I’ve worked with a number of excellent drummers but never one with Mona’s unique approach to the instrument, which if I were to try to describe it, I would say was a blend of effortlessly casual, militarily precise, and subtly sensual.

Being a former jazz guy I was raised on the playing of heavyweights like Elvin Jones and the like. But Mona’s unusual style, coupled with her athletic posture and hypnotically pretty face, in my view puts her in a class by herself. I’d like to see more of her playing if possible. By any chance does she play timbales?

I liked “If You Raise Your Head” a lot! I think a longer concert version is warranted though.

  3. David White (verified owner)

Once again, another masterpiece from these two. Whether it’s a cover album or an album of original music, Mona and Lisa rock it. So, so talented. I can’t wait to see them on tour.

  4. gordon fowler (verified owner)

Brilliant album! The Mona Lisa Twins are getting better and better all the time, and they started out great!

  5. Peter Giaschi (verified owner)

An outstanding album! “Politician” and “If You Raise Your Head” are both part of my playlist now, and “Janitor Joe” helped me mark my return to the classroom…
    Keep going!
    Cheers from Canada…

Superb album. A collection of very different songs. Great music and thoughtful lyrics. It takes 60’s and 70’s music to a new level. The accompanying videos are outstanding..

  7. Roger Howard (verified owner)

I listen to the Why? album while I’m driving around town. It is an excellent CD. The music is very good and the harmonies are wonderful. I enjoy the lyrics and the freshness of your sound. Your work is so much more enjoyable than what is played on commercial radio. I also watch your videos online and they are the best and often funny. Thanks

I’m totaly happy with my mona lisa twins pen and the cd why I love them.very much

  9. Bob Donaldson (verified owner)

“Why?” contains one of my new all-time favourite songs, “Any Other Day”. Listen to it (or better still, watch the video) and you’ll see why!

More ambitious and complex arrangements than their previous outstanding album, “Orange” with more diverse musical styles too. There’s a little more attention to world issues in songs like “I Bought Myself A Politician” and the title track “Why?” which, in my mind, nods towards the musical and lyrical styles found on the Pink Floyd album “Dark Side of the Moon” (the cover artwork could have come from hipgnosis – astonishly it’s also produced by MLT!). Although overall the album does have a mid-60s to early 70s feel to it, so previous MLT fans will not feel out of place among these new tracks.

But it’s not all heavy going, in “Janitor Joe” there’s a lovely fun ballard and “Summer Rain” a warm, optimistic and catchy tune that will make the sun shine and any heavy heart feel warmed and enlightened.

  10. Peter Billington (verified owner)

It’s wonderful to hear your songwriting skills maturing without losing any of the freshness and vitality that are for me the triumphs of your music. I love the clarity and the “openness” of your sound and your beautiful voices and harmonies. The title track Why? for me is a masterpiece – the change of tempo at 3:15 leading to the crescendo is inspired and the chord sequences fit the thought-provoking lyrics so well. Brilliant. And of course Questionable and I Bought Myself a Politician, particularly in combination with the videos, are just wonderful. And I do love all the other tracks as well. Whatever you do, don’t change the way you’re doing it!!

  11. Thomas Altfather-Good (verified owner)

Viele Grüße aus New York. I like the Beatles covers and I’m impressed with the Twin’s rendition of Nowhere Man in particular. I like the Why album as well. As a geezer (65) who is also a musician and political the song that brought me here is I Bought Myself A Politician. Even if I wasn’t a Lefty I would love the song – and the video is superlative. The production values on the video are very, very good and Lisa is terrific. Reminiscent of Lotte Lenya. The song itself is worthy of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. In the tradition of Dreigroschenoper it is simultaneously catchy, fun, and brilliant satire. And given the state of things on Planet Earth satire is sorely needed. (“Das ist die Kunst, wie man alles verhunzt.” — Nina Hagen) My humble request would be for die Geschwister to do an entire album of this kind of thing. Perhaps even including some Brecht/Weill. Einen schönen Tag noch!

There are no words to explain the awesome harmony. Got it for “I Bought Myself a Politician” and LOVE the whole cd.

  13. Mr Norman P Hanley (verified owner)

This is the third cd I’ve purchased and they are all brilliant. A good choice of songs. Thank you.

  14. Phil Whitley (verified owner)

The MonaLisa Twins are the best!🎸🎤⭐⭐💖
I listen to this album on my studio AKG headphones and everything pops! All of the songs on it were mixed and mastered perfectly. I use a couple of the songs as reverences in my DAW to try to get my recordings to sound better. I love the harmonies on all of the songs and especially on “Why?”!!

  15. Thomas Davis (verified owner)

I watched the YouTube of “I Bought Myself A Politician”, and I got the CD. After several listens, I can tell you there are other songs on WHY? with great lyrics and tunes, but throughout are vocal harmonies remind me of the Andrew Sisters.

  16. Peter Giaschi

You are rocking entirely. I’ve shared your music with my former students, and they too are knocked out. Keep going! 👍🎶🔥🇨🇦

  17. Richard Evans (verified owner)

Great album. I’ve enjoyed all the music they are a very good band.

  18. Brian (verified owner)

First heard Mona Lisa Twins from a face book link. “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and though Wow that’s really good. I loved the harmonies and the bright guitar sound. Very 60’s which for me is good . Since then I have listened to lots of stuff on UTube and now confess to be a big fan. The videos are well made and fun to watch. So I bought both CD’s; Why and Orange. (An excellent deal by the way). I think both CD’s are really good with lots of different styles employed. The lyrics are clever, the harmonies superb and the musicianship is outstanding. There are many tracks that I really like and for me convey a real feel good factor but one in particular song is lodged in my brian and that is “Close to you”. The lyrics and harmonies are fabulous.
Having been brought up listening to the Beatles I have to say you do a very good job covering their songs but in truth I prefer your own original stuff to the covers.
Look forward to the next CD. Keep it up You really are very good.

  19. Lena Kinnon (verified owner)

I’m glad I bought the album. The few songs I heard beforehand were just a sample and the rest of the songs didn’t disappoint.

  20. Michael Kennard (verified owner)

I’m so glad that I saw your video for “I bought myself a politician”!
That was my first introduction to you and your music.
I was so impressed by it I went to your website and purchased the two album combo, Why? And orange!
I have listened to them almost exclusively since they arrived, the writing is so intelligently done, the music performed so wonderfully, and your vocals are outstanding!
I just ordered your entire catalog of CDs and the video.
    Thank you so very much!

    Hello Mona and Lisa,

I received your CD ‘Why?’ and played it several times. I love the songs. Just like a few commenters have stated before, you are a breath of fresh air. I love your style of music and your beautiful voices as they sing your songs. Again, my compliments to you family for the support they give you. Keep doing what you do with your songs and music. Stay away from the big record companies.

Also, my compliments to you and your father for having a very good understanding of the English language. It so amazing that you wrote these songs. It is much better than my German and Spanish.

    My favorite songs are:

    I Bought Myself A Politician
    Questionable
    Jump Ship
    Any Other Day
    Why?

But of all the songs I love the best is ‘Any Other Day’. It reminded me when I was young man in my twenties and thinking I was the one in eight billion. Well, back then it was one in six plus billion. Anyway, the song struck an emotional chord in me. You must do more love songs and unrequited love songs in this style.

I wish I can see you live in concert and maybe get a chance to say hello to you two but both of us are busy with our lives and schedules.

And thanks for autographing my CD and the guitar pick. And say hello to your father and stepmom, I would like to meet them and say thank you for helping your musical careers.

Well, that is it for now.

    Stay groovy too!

    Perry

I love the new CD. As a long-time fan, you never fail to amaze and to try new things. I especially love Any Other Day, can’t wait to learn it on the mandolin. It may sound odd, but I love the Christmas CD, especially All I Want Christmas To Be.

  23. Jim (verified owner)

I heard a snippet from the song “I Bought Myself A Politician” and, on a whim, bought the whole CD. I love it! Thoroughly enjoyable. I hate to date myself but your music is a beautifully fresh reminder of the music I grew up with in the 60’s and 70’s.

  36. Steven Petersen (verified owner)

Hello Twins. I very much appreciate your skills and talents. Very great videos as well. “WHY” is my first album purchase and I have listened/watched all the videos on your website. The first song I ever heard of yours was posted in a Fakebook PM (I bought myself a Politician)! It is inspiring for our group of patriots! I think it is written about Bill Gates! Your craftsmanship and creativity abound. When is Colorado on your concert list? Thanks for being yourselves by elevating peoples hearts, minds and souls! Love All and “BE” prosperous!!!
    Steven

  37. Kenneth Blackman (verified owner)

I just love their original songs, covers are good but you are always comparing with originals, that is not the case with Orange and Why, keep them coming girls.

  38. Barb (verified owner)

Love the album Why! Your originals are fabulous! Thank you so much!

  39. John Bruesch (verified owner)

I like the new album but for listening all the way through without skipping tracks, I like Orange better. Favorite tracks are Any Other Day (superb!) and Questionable (the video is fabulously funny, and just hearing it on CD reminds me of that!). Didn’t like the echo / round overlays in Make Show (too much “production” – less is more, in my view), but again, the video was creative and very well done, so there’s that. Good album!

  40. David knotts (verified owner)

The new record Why is great love every song.on it

  41. Dave D (verified owner)

Love the new album Why. Favourite tracks have to be Any Other Day & Politician. I now own all of your recordings and love every one of them. You’re music is so upbeat, catchy and 60s influenced – brilliant! Keep on rockin’ M&L.

  42. Gary Stone (verified owner)

Love the new album! Especially like “I bought myself a politician” Sounds a lot like what is going on here in the states! Unfortunately! Anyway keep up the groove, lovin’ it! When are you coming to the states? Would love to attend a concert. Thanks

  43. Darrel Keith Johnson (verified owner)

    Hello Girls;
I have enjoyed your music, original and covers. It does help that I’m a Beatles fan also. Your videos are great, and enjoyed watching your video story of your young goose and the making of the art work for ‘Orange’. Those stories show that you are real people that sometimes we forget. I hope that one day I have a chance to see your show in person. But being in the States it may never happen.

Please keep making music and videos. I look forward to seeing more.

  44. tbockers (verified owner)

Love the new CD, as well as my Studio Scribble for Songbird, and my Mona Lisa Twins hat. Very happy with all my merchandise, and I had no problems at all with the shipping. It arrived in great shape and without any major delay. This was my 2nd order from your store and I’ve been extremely pleased with both. Keep making that music ladies, I truly like your style!

  45. John Boilard (verified owner)

I heard my first song from the twins while listening to a discovery playlist on Amazon Music. With headphones on I found myself enjoying all of the various instruments that would let’s say pop in for a visit. Instantly I viewed and played the rest of the album. I bought the CDs to help the band continue to do what they do since the streaming services like the rest of the industry take so much and give back so little.

I’m happy for this family unit. And wish them all the very best.

  46. André Jean (verified owner)

What a great album, intelligent texts, greats melodies, way to go girls!

  47. Larry Hill (verified owner)

I can’t really add anything to these numerous comments. The album is well written, performed and produced.

Loved your originals, now I need to get your CD Live at the Cavern Club

  50. Bernie (verified owner)

The CD is great. Your unique style and voices are a pleasure to listen too. Your lyrics and instrumentation added to what seem to be great personalities have made me a fan.

  51. John McCulloch (verified owner)

I bought the Why? album after hearing ‘I Bought Myself A Politician’ a song that I think really sums up our political classes, but the rest of the songs on this are equally as insightful. The opener ‘Make Show’ is full of catchy lines, while ‘Questionable’ and ‘Jump Ship’ are brilliantly written songs. You deserve all the success that undoubtedly will come your way.

  52. Brian Thomas (verified owner)

The latest album from the exceptionally talented and tuneful Mona Lisa Twins is the perfect musical antidote to the renewed efforts of a bunch of global tyrants to destroy ordinary people’s lives. You may have heard about it…
This album WHY?, they say, was written in “the strangest and most bizarre [years] of our lifetime” and one of many highlights is the track I Bought Myself a Politician. “They’re even cheaper if you take a pair,” they sing, adding. “I even bought the press” and let “a universal scientist and generous philanthropist” to buy their way into the spotlight. Might ring a bell or two…
Following the same theme, The title track Why? asks how people believe “the lies and wolves in disguise” that have led to “a war on the sovereignty of man” with “no-one left to call out what is wrong.” And in Make Show we hear the line “puppet master, puppet master, here to stage the next disaster” and Jump Ship advises we leave the “nice safe ship” to avoid the “information war sweeping from the ocean to the shore” – a “pact between the devil and the priest.”
Strong stuff, yet not despairing. The songs are upbeat with a great sense of coruscating humour, good tunes and much sunshine, with the overall message that love will conquer the pervading darkness, as it has done before. Their song writing even reminds me a little of the wonderful Stackridge, with exemplary dual and multiple female vocals (of course) throughout.
And there are the occasional diversions with the cleansing downpour of Summer Rain, the tale of Janitor Joe, a school cleaner who blasts himself into space and is confused with a UFO, or the annoyance of distracting cuteness in a very public Pretty Little Thing.
Born in Austria and based in Liverpool, these twin-sister singer-songwriters Mona Wagner (vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion, harmonica, flute) and Lisa Wagner (vocals, lead guitar, ukulele, cello) record in their own studio with their father Rudolph as producuer, co-writer and arranger (as well as some bass and piano) and stepmother Michaela as manager.
WHY? is an album much recommended and any of their titles would brightly grace a sensible record collection.
Finally, as a side thought, I remember an episode of the 1960’s TV series The Prisoner called The General when a new speed-teaching machine is introduced to The Village to indoctrinate its inmates into believing the same thing, posing a major threat to captive former British agent Number Six’s independence. Yet he causes the machine to implode by feeding into it the one unanswerable question: WHY? Brian Thomas.

  53. Iain Carswell (verified owner)

I bought Why an album full of well written songs and sung beautifully well done ladies.I will be playing tracks on my radio show The Carr Collection on 242radio.com

  54. Mike

One of the best performers around. I’ve been a fan for years.

  55. David Fisher (verified owner)

I loved the song “Any Other Day”

  56. Michael Sweeney (verified owner)

In early January I bought the full set of eleven MLT albums from the bands website including the latest one, WHY?
Prior to that I had only seen and heard the girls on Youtube videos over a period of about two years but had become increasingly impressed with them. So, I thought that I would take a chance and just buy the whole collection at once.
After ordering, the package arrived quite quickly and the CD’s nicely wrapped. It also contained a couple of little freebies, which was a nice touch.
I’ve been delighted with my purchase. Everything from the wonderful album sleeve designs to the to the quality of the CD’s was top-notch.
The real jewel has of course been the music and it’s been a real pleasure to now hear them performing songs both covers and originals that I hadn’t heard them perform before.
I was so pleased that I joined the club – in order to keep up with what’s new and to provide a little support.

  57. Tim Arnold (verified owner)

Wow. What an incredible album. For me this puts them in the class of not only the best contemporary artist but with the best of all time. It’s one of those albums you can put on, close your eyes and let the MonaLisa Twins take you on a joyride. Their artistic engineering, as well as their playful personalities really shine through. With thought provoking lyrics and tasty instrumentals the girls and their Papa Rudi are certainly spreading their wings and flying high. This album is already one of my all time favorites. Worth twice the money.

    – ALBUM REVIEW –

Greetings from Australia! This latest album WHY? is a masterpiece of songwriting and musicianship! As we all know, the harmonies are always impeccable and blend as one! Mona and Lisa are very talented musicians and performers.

As an experienced Songwriter and qualified sound engineer, I’d like to write an in-depth review of several featured tracks. Some are simple and euphonious; whilst others you’ll be blown away with, by the complexities, creativity and arrangements!

    Make Show •
This is a great opening track on the album. It’s distinctive vocal style and exceptional bass track which grooves the song along; makes this a solid number! The “Make Show” lyrics (from my interpretation), tend to indicate how the likes of production companies, will promote and exploit their artists. The song is clever and very well arranged!

When the chorus arrives at 0:44 with; ♫”You gotta make show”♪; there’s a wonderful and effective background ambience, that creates the atmospheric mood of the song. Plus the signature guitar riff by Lisa in the choruses is superb! There is no guitar solo in this song, as it is stacked with lyrics in the arrangement. From 2:55 with; ♫”We just need your pretty face”♪; is over thirty seconds of non-stop continuous vocals without a pause! It catches you out on the first listen, as it it is totally unexpected and very innovative and creative. It works a charm and you’ll have a tough time keeping up with the girls trying to sing along!

Mona and Lisa would have had fun with the overdubs in the studio, working on this track. It would be a challenge performed ‘live’ singing the latter of the song; but after all, in the end; ♫”You gotta make show!”♪. So who better than up for the task than this? Mona and Lisa of course! ☺

    I Bought Myself a Politician •
This is probably the most popular song choice for a ‘Single’ off the album; due to it’s catchy melodic structure which has an instant appeal. It runs for just under 3 minutes, so is ideal for radio stations. It has a nice flowing rhythm beat; plus it has cleverly written cheeky lyrics about politics! (which we can all relate to). The lines are very smartly written like: ♫”As universal scientist and generous philanthropist, my shopping list confirms my expertise”♪.

There’s also a nifty guitar solo which stems around the main theme. The sound is clean and superbly mixed. It’s a great song, which would be quite effective and enjoyable played live with a band. (The video for this track deserves an award, as it’s spectacularly done and most creative! – A must see!!)

    Janitor Joe •
There’s certainly creative lyrics and an imagination, to come up with an original story about the mysterious Janitor Joe! (Yes where did he go?) Musically; the song has a distinct rhythmic feel with the syncopated snare drum. This is another song which would go well played live. (even could be aptly played with a straight beat for dance!).

The song is much more appreciated if you absorb the lyrics, as it takes you on a magically entrancing journey! Plus there’s some splendid background vocals cleverly arranged through-out the song.

I think it’s Mona who takes the lead vocal in this composition and she also plays some nicely featured flute, giving the song a distinct sound and theme. At 0:38 begins the chorus, with the lyrics soon stating; ♫”He dreams of leaving Mother Earth”♪. Then at 1:47 is the clever idea of including a NASA style countdown!!

The song moves along as the story about Janitor Joe progresses; and it’s not until finally it reaches it’s climax at 2:43, when he blasts off!! Now with Joe flying through the universe, the song takes on a musical twist. The catchy sing-along chorus with the distant vocals; ♫”Janitor Joe where did you go”♪; has you also singing along! It’s the highlight of the track and would be interesting hearing it earlier at 1:55 with Joe’s first venture. However since the song follows the story line; it makes perfect sense being featured at the end! It’s such an irresistible chorus which you will instantly love! ♫”Janitor, Janitor Joe”♪. If this song was played live, it may probably be played longer as the crowd would be all elated singing along! ♫”Janitor Joe where did you go”♪.

    Questionable •
What an exquisitely witty song!! After a short intro by Rudi, is an interesting chord sequence with some outstanding vocals by Lisa. (fabulous singing and vocal control). Then at 0:40 the harmonies come in with; ♫”You want my love you want romance”♪. It’s a terrific Chorus with thoughtfully written lyrics! They are quite cheeky, humorous and clever! Even at the start the questions fly; then suddenly at 0:28 is an unexpected; ♫”And do you care about the roundabout they’re building over there”♪. Then later is; ♫”The frequency with which you change your underwear?”♪. (Now that’s cheeky!!).

The questions roll on all through the song, as the lyrics in the chorus sum up what the song is all about; ♫”My heart is one big questionnaire, So let me see if we could make a questionable pair”♪.

Then at 1:58 is the bridge which adds tension and is smartly written. The vocals of course are stellar through-out and there’s even a little break at 2:55, with just the drums and vocals, which is a refreshing clever touch. The song is very well arranged and is quite an exceptional solid track! When watching the YouTube video, due to it being so entertaining; some may tend to be distracted and not notice how terrific this song actually is in it’s own right!

    Summer Rain •
This euphonious relaxing song is brilliant! It’s very calming and the delightful vocals seem to caress the lyrics. There’s some splendid Bass playing and arranging by Rudi.

At 1:12 is a beautiful guitar solo. It’s superb an impeccably played! The idea of a rimshot for drums works a treat and the improvised bass is sublime. The vocals resume at 1:39 with; ♫”And when you make us feel alive again”♪; with the harmonies sounding a real treat.

This is such a feel-good song. The clarity and purity in the recording is simply beautiful.

    Songbird •
What a gorgeous song! The lyrics convey about hope; dreams and determination! Writing the story and structuring the track about a “Songbird” is skillful songwriting! Especially when you add the wonderfully addictive singing and music; which makes it a stand-out gem! The style of the song reminds me of the twins first album.

Due to the song being so well interwoven and flowing; it may be unnoticed the exceptional drumming by Mona. The clever fills; rimshot; snare and cymbals are smartly delivered and arranged. At around 1:49 there’s an interesting featured solo. It’s a unique clean sound; described like a blend of a harpsichord and bellish chime sound. It’s elegantly played and works splendidly in the song.

Lisa takes the lead in this track, with perfect harmonies by Mona. At 2:21 is a stellar introduction of some “Ooh’s” with; ♫”Oooooh spread your wings rise into the air”♪. The length of the song goes for 3:18; but feels like only a couple of minutes, due to the captivating serenity of the soundtrack.

    Jump Ship •
This incredible composition is masterly written! The lyrics have a deep overtone which are applied to your own interpretation. Musically; it’s quite complex in the song’s structure; yet it’s “easy listening” of the; ♫”Ahh’s”♪; at the start have you captivated in a dream-like state. Lisa’s beautiful yet haunting vocals are stellar and have you transfixed; whilst Mona’s effective drums keep the groove. The creative drumming is outstanding and exceptionally played! (The prominent snare drum sounds superb!)

The song tends to send you drifting away, along with the evocative lyrics; until suddenly at 1:35; ♫”I better jump ship”♪. The change of mood is dramatic and it’s an awesome chorus! It has you hooked on the first listen. There is a zany-epigrammatic style of vocals (which needs to be heard); applied to the singing! It has a ‘David Bowie’ sound to it and the chorus is actually melodically quite powerful. The harmonies are sublime; whilst Mona’s drumming is cleverly arranged, driving the song along.

The music gets quite eerie at 3:34, as each line of the lyrics seems to climb up a semi-tone. It’s a fantastic effect and reflects the talent of creativity in songwriting. It really adds an atmosphere of tension; until Mona finally screams out at 3:45; ♫”But staying here won’t save your neck!”♪. — This is a sensational album track!

    Why? •
This indeed is a musical experience going for five minutes; with intense political and provocative lyrics. It has incredible fat layered harmonies, superbly sung; with the hint of Queen-like vocals. With the break at 3:12; there’s some exceptional drums by Mona. This section has a bit of Pink Floyd sound to it and subjectively it would be interesting to hear just the music a bit longer, before the vocals resume to give it even more space. There’s a superb cutting cello sound which drives the song along.

The song is a big statement in “why?” in many aspects of the world’s situation. The lyrics do not hold back and they are very cleverly written. It makes you think and it’s an epic sensational track!! An immense amount of outstanding vocal work has gone into this masterpiece! Big commendations go to Mona and Lisa for their sensational mammoth vocal work!

This album “WHY?” is a definite must have!! It’s incredible talent, blended along with stunning vocals and music, making it a treasured collection! The originality of the songs is invigorating and the studio mixing is exceptional. ☺

Fantastic musicianship, well crafted songs, unparallel harmonies. It is evident that “The Twins” are comfortable with this music.

I have listened to it a few times and it is extremely good. I know many have said so within the Club. But, I was around when Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, Abbey Road, Dark Side of the Moon, various Rolling Stones LPS in the late 1960s,/early 1970s, and Nights in White Satin were released and honored. The ‘Why?’ LP takes me back to those times when some LPs were epic works. Not that I am a music critic of any renown, but I know what I like. Also, I remember those LPs when those were released and their place in music history. ‘Why?’ reminds me of those epic LPs. I could go on and on about how good the LP is, but I am already starting to get repetitive. The MLT team has really done a special piece of music with ‘Why?’

A refreshing mix of tunes of seemingly different genres, there seems to be almost something for everyone on the album, the (as the girls would say) Groovy ones, the quieter more thoughtful and the catchy sing a long (stick in your head & heart) tracks a great mix and all to the usual monaLisa standards. A welcome addition to the collection. Thanks girls.

Bought as a duo with the Christmas album. Really appreciate these original songs as much as the Christmas songs. Now Christmas is past, the Why album is a part of our daily soundtrack. I will come back to purchase some of the earlier discs. I can listen to these on Amazon music as well, but I believe artists need better reward for their talents and effort than the small amount from streaming services.

    Dearest Twinz,

Thanks for the opportunity to leave a review.

WHY? is an amazing collection of original songs with your natural harmonies and mixing of instruments. How in the world are you two so gifted? I absolutely love and adore your talents and kind personalities.

I gave the five CDs I bought to friends as Holiday presents and they all loved “Why?”. Maybe a few more fans to add hopefully.

This is a great collection of original music from Mona and Lisa and company. Nothing compares to twins harmonizing! The songs have splendid arrangements and tend to grow on you. “Any Other Day” is my favorite. Very Beatlesque.

  69. Jim Papp (verified owner)

Upon seeing the album cover, my first thought was that this was your Rubber Soul/Revolver album. The album art is kinda Pink Floyd ish, the masses dutifully following along absorbed in their respective cell phones. I wondered what the significance, if any, of the red balloon.  Always at least one person who isn’t afraid to be different. Your music has grown so very much over the years. The two previously mentioned Beatles albums were the ones where the lads began to expand not only their approach to music but the themes they sang about. And so too, Why shows the expansion of your music.  It is more sophisticated and complex. The themes tip toe so eloquently into social and political themes rather than focusing primarily on personal relationships.

Excellent work. My hats off to the “third twin” (a position similar to the 5th Beatle).  A first class production. If I had to be critical of something I would suggest listing the musicians, the instruments used, listing the different vocal parts and who wrote the song. Is one the primary songwriter or is it more of a Lennon-McCartney collaborative effort? Do the lyrics come first and the music is shaped around the words or vice versa? I wonder about the process to create such wonderful music.

Anyway, well done. I look forward to hearing your continued musical growth. Have a very Merry Christmas to y’all. (I live in the South, USA)

    • Rick Twomey (verified owner)

Hi Jim…the red balloon comes from the video on Songbird which is also on the WHY ? album…at the end of the video Lisa releases the balloon and it floats off…now with the WHY ? album art we find out where the balloon ended up…..as to your question of songwriting all three..Mona..Lisa..Papa Rudi are listed as the songwriters for every original song…as with any songwriting team the idea can come from any one of them and they work on it until they collectively are happy with it..or..scrap it…in most of their videos there isn’t necessarily a “ lead” vocalist as they both do a great amount of singing in every song…their harmonies are beautifully matched..of course they’re twins…but every now and then one or the other has the definitive “lead” vocal….their voices are sosososo close you really have to listen for the slightest nuance to tell the difference…and that only comes from watching and listening to many many many videos that you eventually can tell which one is the lead on any given song.

First congratulations, Mona and Lisa on a fine group of songs. I think it tops all that you have done so far. What I admire more than anything. It’s your own material. All the songs writing are excellent. I hope you keep doing your own material which will make you a better artist as you move forward. I hope you start thinking of taking the show on the road. It’s time again to perform live.

I love that this album is a style and sound all their own, derivative of no one. Mona and Lisa Wagner are inspired song writers in the tradition of the great rock legends of the past creating such brilliant innovative new music that is lacking in the mainstream music industry and so rare to find today. There is so much emotion, meaning and substance to their music that draws me back with a timeless appeal. “WHY?” album is truly a masterpiece that touches and moves me so deeply, love it so much!

Looking forward to sharing your stuff and hope you can make a US tour happen.

    “WHY?” has it all:

    -really meaningful lyrics (especially with the “interesting” developments of 2020+ in mind);

    -excellent music (tasteful mix of 60s homage that brings a big smile of recognition to your face, and fresh ideas);

    -excellent production quality;

    -the usual MLT charm.

I give the album 11 points out of 10.
    Thank you MLT!

i have read a few of the other reviews. they go into great detail about each song. all the things they mention are true. i love how each new album shows your growth as people and artists. i particularly love the way that the background vocals have more texture and fullness and the perfect production values.
but for me the greatest thing you can say about an artist and their work is that i listen to your music every day, every day. i can’t stop playing any other day.
in closing i am glad i have a signed copy of your work, and please don’t make us wait another 5 years.

  91. Allan Morton (verified owner)

The MonaLisa Twins new album Why? (a long five years since their last full original album Orange) clearly shows why they are now the greatest exponents of catchy choruses in popular music today. The 12 songs on the album offer a variety of styles from jolly sing-a-longs to heavy reflective commentaries on the problems of the world via some light hearted songs of love (even to a goose!).

The albums kicks off with Make Show (as the Beatles were told to do every night) which clearly states their desire to give the audience what they want, and that is music with a great groove and thoughtful lyrics. Amongst some great guitar work from Lisa and lovely harmony vocals this sets the album up nicely. Special mention for the bass work here and throughout the album which is melodic and supports the songs really well.

I Bought Myself A Politician follows and on initial listens is more reminiscent of their Orange days, possibly due to this track being one of the earliest destined for the album. It’s a fun tune with typically interesting lyrics and includes a great guitar solo.

Janitor Joe is a enjoyable little story with the protagonist heading off to outer space. With an amazing chorus in the latter part of the song accompanied by lovely guitar and some sitar sounds this is a song that really ends on a high – and you’ll be singing it for ages.

Questionable is an interesting track which is really well sung, as Lisa is setting up a list of questions to potential suitors, possibly due to the inability to meet people face to face in recent years. It’s hard to dissociate it from the fun video which is really well made. It includes a great chorus in the style of The Supremes with some lovely backing vocals from Mona which are a delight to the ears. There are also some great organ sounds in the backing music.

Destination Sunrise has a really rocking guitar and contains another amazing chorus and is so uplifting with some lovely backing vocals to highlight the theme.
Summer Rain include some great guitar picking with a lovely vibe reminiscent of hot summer days. You can almost feel the heat of the sun and the care free joy of summer in the music.

Songbird is a standout song with its shared vocals between Mona and Lisa and stays in your head for days once you have heard it – never forgotten. Lovely acoustic guitar playing complement the melody.

Jump Ship may appear on the surface as a little nursery rhyme but the lyrics reflect on real emotions of changing direction and leaving ones comfort zone. The chorus is just wonderful and you can be singing it to yourself for days after hearing it. For a song set underwater it has a lovely atmosphere with some melodic bass lines.

Any Other Day is a ballad that would not feel out of place on a Paul McCartney album with its lovely melody and multiple backing vocals. It is a special moment on the album.

If You Raise Your Head reflects on some of the issues of the modern age where people are happy to hide in silos rather than confront the day to day pressures of life. The guitar parts are stunning here with the usual lovely vocals and is another song with a great groove throughout and during the extended rocking instrumental break.

Why? follows up the previous track with an exceptional commentary on some of the issues of the past few years, focusing on the things that divide people and why the human race always has to invent divisions instead of getting on with each other in harmony and love. This is Mona and Lisa at their most serious as they espouse great sentiments within an important theme.

After the heavy vibe of the title track the album closes in the classic way with a light hearted rockabilly feel good song of love for an abandoned gosling (which the girls cared for lovingly over the summer). This raises the spirits and makes you come away impressed with the level of song writing and musicianship evident on the whole album – and of course makes you want to play it again!

Many influences on the MonaLisa Twins music resonate throughout the album from the classic era of rock with hints of Cream, The Kinks, all four Beatles, James Taylor, The Supremes, Billy Joel, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones (to my ears anyway) sprinkled around the tunes. This is lovely, adds a little familiarity and makes the listening experience more rewarding and reflects well on the music we all love from the past.

The album has a lovely warm sound and is expertly produced to get the best from the complex arrangements. A special mention also for the cover art with its sci-fi theme which looks wonderful (especially as a separate artwork card which is available).

In summary, Why? is a wonderful album lovingly created by two of the greatest practitioners of real music working today and everyone should own a copy in their record collection. Let’s hope it’s a shorter wait for the next album!

I just listened to Why for the third time to absorb it.. the Talented Mona & Lisa have done an interesting and what I consider innovative thing… They did NOT repeat the vibe of their last album but explored making steps forward, not that the last album wasn’t great !Reminds me of the Fab’s around Rubber Soul and Revolver and rather than stay comfortable pressed forward…I am not saying Why is Revolver but it is so inspiring to hear talent not afraid to try things that are cool and as the Germans used to say Machen show to a certain John and Paul back in my teenage days 🙂 I can hear the influences that the ladies were listening to when they post pictures of their listening habits, worth getting and as always the folks in Manchester sent it to me well packed and with a little bit of a hug… Us old folks like that vibe as the sixties live on in the ladies !!!!!

  93. Rubber Soul (verified owner)

    WHY?

Because this album is their best!

Fresh songs written, arranged and sung in a clever way that take you back to the 60’s and 70’s. Very melodic compositions with voices blending into perfect harmony, influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd amongst others …

… and yet MonaLisa Twins have a unique sound of their own that very few can match these days.

A pearl in these uncertain times!

WHY? it’s another job worthy of being in the pantheon of the most prominent rock and pop rock bands in the entire history of music, not to mention that for me you are a female version of the Beatles, without all the problems that the Beatles faced during the time that got together. May God bless the MONALISA TWINS family, and may you continue to present us with your wonderful works.

I’ve been listening to this album for nearly a month now – daily, in fact! Each song is a gem on its own, but I find that once I start listening to the album, I want to listen to the entire thing. Musically sublime and brilliantly produced, it has the added dimension of being thought-provoking and emotionally cathartic. Even when I’m not listening, whichever song is relevant to the moment runs through my head. I love, love, love this album – my absolute favourite one ever!

Even though we heard many of the songs on the newly release album “Why” I was truly surprised at the freshness, versatility, highly polished production throughout the entire album. The music and lyrics are truly incredible, inspiring, original, thoughtful, and executed so well and of the highest caliber. Mona & Lisa, along with the production team, truly hit this one out of the park. With not a single ‘throwaway’ track, the album effortlessly rolls from one song to the next. Lyrically fresh, musically versatile, the album showcases how incredibly talented the duo has become. A true musical triumph.

Love the new album Why. It’s completely different to your first two original releases (both great also), and I think you have moved up to a new level with the innovation and ideas you bring to your songwriting. I love the way you poke fun at political governments with “I bought myself a politician”, the fun look at speed dating in “Questionable” is great, and I really like the love song “Any other day”. All 12 songs are very different from each other and have their own unique appeal covering the lighthearted to darker, more serious subjects. I’m sure you are both very proud of it.
PS – when you touring next?

I discovered the Twins on youtube with them doing a cover of a Beatles song. Since then I have bought almost all their albums. I preordered WHY and having seen a few of the tracks that have been on youtube I knew it would be good. Well, it is excellent.
The girls are one of the best bands around currently. They breathe new life into the old classics which is great but their own songs are just great. Some sound like they were written in the 60’s. Basically, it is REAL music played by talented musicians.
I just realised I haven’t bought their Christmas album, hmmm.

Recently new to MLT from the moment I heard your “I Bought Myself A Politician” I just knew you were great and when “Why” came out I just knew I had to get it. I was not disappointed in the slightest. Your vocal talents are sublime and need to be heard. I as a radio presenter am more than happy to play any of your tracks on air, you deserve to be at the top. Thank you for carrying on making great music and being so talented.

  122. Charles (verified owner)

I could go on and on and on about what a great collection of music there is on this new album WHY? But, I will say, buy the album and listen. It’s fabulous! I have not been this excited about a band since the summer of ’63 when I heard a song on the radio by some boys in England that called themselves The Beatles. I will repeat what has been written before about The MonaLisa Twins : These young ladies don’t just play music, THEY ARE MUSIC.

  123. Dennis Abbott (verified owner)

“Why” is so different from “Orange” but both great. I used to just play “Orange” in my car, but now “Why” has now joined it. I have my favourites from both of them. From “Orange” Still a friend of mine, pulls at the heartstrings, Waiting for the waiter, a great blues sounding song, Sweet Lorraine, just a happy tune with some dark undertones. On the whole I love the whole album. The first time I listened to Why, I was struck how different it was from Orange. For that I can only commend the MonaLisa twins and their father Rudie. Standing still and putting out similar songs as their previous original offerings is leading to a dead end. Every album the Beatles released was different and original. I am of the opinion that’s why they retained their popularity even now. The songs I most like on Why, Make Show, Politician, Jump Ship, Questionable, Songbird. That’s not to say that the others are not commendable, it just these are my favourites. I never skip a track when listening to the Album. Just buy it and check it out yourself you’ll love it and if you haven’t already buy Orange at the same time, so you can compare and contrast. I can’t wait for there next offering, I love it

  124. Whiteman George (verified owner)

Still getting used to it. Need to play it more.Even some of the Beatles tunes took awhile to become hard-wired.

  125. Glyn Owen (verified owner)

Why did I buy the new album ‘Why’.
I first discovered MLT when I heard them sing a Beatles cover. I listened to everything they put out, watched them on YouTube. When I listened to their original music, I fell in love with them even more.
Now, ‘Why’ must be the best thing they’ve ever done. We had to wait quite a long time for them to write the songs, record the songs and produce the album but boy was it worth it. Lisa plays a wonderful guitar etc and has a lovely tuneful voice. Mona accompanies on guitar, accordion and drums. I love her voice, she has more of a rock voice, she also has a true funny bone with the ability to show humour in most situations. Papa Rudi, the twins dad produces for them and what an expert he is. The team are true professionals.
I urge you to buy this album.

First impressions after first two hearings:

A clear leap forward musically and lyrically. More “knowing”, observational lyrics and more ‘production’ in the overall sound.

I have also been listening to the new Revolver box set, and there are some interesting parallels. I don’t mean slavish copying, but a similar spirit of looking for something new rather than repeating what has gone before. Examples of this are the sudden change in tempo on Jump Ship, and the ‘Taxman’ bassline and startling wah-wah guitar on Raise Your Head. Also the strings on the epic “Why?”

MLT have also given careful thought to the sequencing of the tracks. The album seems to build up to the title track, then ends on an upbeat mood with the jaunty Pretty Little Thing.

Could this be the MLT’s Revolver? Who knows where they will go from here!

A review this a different darker listening experience than orange ,which was a joy , but given the difficulties we are all experiencing may a count for that. the final track pretty little thing , is a nice cheerful one to finish on though, while I bought myself a politician is great , questionable is humorous but how often do you change your underwear ,really ladies! Songbird is a beauty and janitor Joe is a funny one reminds me of bungalow bill.. on the whole a good effort some great lyric writing and good rhymes, it is bound to grow on me as this is on first listening , no sleeve notes and no mention of the artist that did the cover art which is Banksy like. With the red balloon, Offering a glimmer of hope and individuality.

I love the album. Thank you Mona, Lisa and the MLT family for producing a great album, it was worth the wait. ❤️💛❤️🥁🎸

  131. David Harris

This is a fine album of original material, very much in the English style. The ladies have taken in the influences of music from the 1960s & 1970s and added their own twist. There are some perceptive lyrics & great melodies. And of course fine musicianship & singing. This is their best album of original material to date. Whilst I love the cover versions of songs, it is lovely to hear new material as well. In the future, maybe artists will cover some of the material on this album.

  132. Peter Wallace (verified owner)

I have quite a few of your albums. I love the way you do the old songs. I amm now in my 70s and you both bring back memories from my youth.. You play and sing the old songs as well as the original artists did. I will be buying more in the future. Many thanks to you both.

The best album so far, and I have them all!

Why? Fantastic. I have every cd the girls have made. They are all Brilliant.
I belonged to the MLT Club, but I retired six years ago and can no longer afford the membership. But it is very good value for money, and I really miss it. I can recommend joining, you won’t regret it.
The Twins are the best thing in music today!

WOW, Mona and Lisa continue to amaze me. What an album “WHY?”
You must hear it to believe it. Their original music continues to evolve in a good way.
I bought two copies so far and I highly recommend it.

    Why not?

It’s a very English CD in more ways than one. For one thing, I’m always in awe how perceptive the MLTs are about all things English. They really are unusually perceptive. Imagine for a moment you’re mother language is German, and you encounter the “WH” sound for the first time around English speaking people. It’s going to turn your head around because the WH sound is simply not a sound used in the German language, at least I don’t think it’s ever been in use. Even English speaking people aren’t good at the “WH” dipthong, which is why it’s fun. I remember in 5th grade school having to reinforce using the WH sound and wondering why myself.

That’s what jumped out at me first seeing this CD. I literally paused for a moment thinking back in time. The MLTs genuinely love most things about the U.K. heritage. The British are going to sense that and welcome you with open hearts.

Then I thought back to The Beatles in Hamburg. With Tony Sheridan, they recorded a version of the song similarly titled, “Why?”. I really liked that version as much as this new MLTs song. This sort of made me think why English groups often played the song “Why” when in Hamburg nightclubs or recording studios. Perhaps it was just an English thing when around Germans to be unique. Why? Who knows.

As for the music on the MLT CD “Why?”, to me, the reason MLT persists over time is in their ability to generate these new melodies that have a easy to remember single line of notes in the middle eight.

As noted for years now, I believe Lisa is a strong lead guitarist. If unsure about this, look at the fretboard camera on MLT’s rendition of “You’re Going to Lose that Girl” at the Cavern Club, or even back in their early days playing “Can’t Buy Me Love”. I don’t want to overstate it, but Lisa is just a good instrumentalist.

    Poor Mona.

Maybe we can have Mona do a dual lead electric guitar with Lisa on “And Your Bird Can Sing” or “The End”, and balance it all out with competing, dual lead guitars. Just a thought.

Best lyrics of all the songs appear on the CD “Why?” is “I Bought Myself a Politician”. Regardless if you like MLT songs or not, you have to admit this song’s lyrics are CLEVER. Everyone appreciates cleverness. That’s the MLT trademark. They are hardworking people, yes, but most of all they are the most clever group at the present moment. Why? The answer to that question is found in the title of the CD “Why?” and it’s many wonderful, melodious tunes like “Songbird” that appear there, but the final answer to the MLT mystery found in the CD “Why?” is clever. That’s MLT in one English word.

Why not get the MLT CD “Why?” while you can. Why not?

      Hi Michael,
I am going to leave a review about MLT’s Why?,
but I just wanted to say that when you mentioned Tony Sheridan it brought back some good memories. I was in a department store in NYC many moons ago and I found a copy of “My Bonnie” by Tony Sheridan, with the Beatles backing him up. It was a 45 rpm in the discount section and I think it only cost about one dollar. I do not remember what the flip side was, but I still have the recording.

THE album to buy this year is WHY?! (Love the album name!) The music is fabulous and the messages are timely. You will find this is an album for the ages. Sit back, put your feet up and let the music take you away. You will be so glad you did!

WHY? – A very articulate and masterful musical experience. Harmonies, musicianship, and performances are excellence personified. A small subtle shift in musical direction. The maturity of age is very evident in the lyrics of several songs.  More reflective of the times. A tremendous amount of work goes into an album like this. Please know we appreciate it.

Each song is a composition of something very special and unique about the times we are in. I’m pretty sure I know the reason why WHY? Got it name, but I will keep that to my self.

WHY is great CD, why because it is full great songs, great music, great harmonies, great guitars, great drums by Mona, Lisa solo guitar on (if you raise your head) is fantastic. Any other day is such a beautiful song, I love it so much, it is splendid. It is like a Beatles song like a Paul McCartney in the style. WHY is amazing I really like the words.

“You Really Got Me”. Da liebe ich Mona’s “Alrights” und speziell bei der Live-Version Lisa’s granatiges Gitarren-Solo. Ihr seid in solchen Songs doch echt saugut! Also nur zu, mehr davon!

I don’t know what to say about this CD. If you don’t have it, you need to get it. It is AWESOME. The harmonies take me back to an older generation (mine). The melodies are fabulous and the lyrics bring it all together. Favorite song? Pretty much all of them. But I lean toward Questionable.
Still you need to buy this. I’m an old guy (70) and these fabulous ladies make some awesome music. Thanks for sharing your talents.

Hi ladies ! Love this new album as the others before. But just one request… Could you sing songs more rock ? Like you did on the previous CD done in the cavern club ? Your covers of Revolution, My Generation or You really got me are fabulous ! Really ! The saturated guitars and voices… whahou !! Great ! I got chills… Thank you for living on earth !

Macht weiter so!! Ich freu mich schon auf Euer nächstes Album!

I’m not very good with words, but ever since I discovered the MonaLisa Twins on you tube, I have been following their progress. They are so enjoyable to listen to and to watch them perform and interact with each other. And they do it as a team with their dad and stepmom, and they have their own record label. The ‘WHY’ CD is as good as the first two original albums if not better. Keep entertaining us for a long time ladies (I hope that doesn’t offend you (I doubt it does), you never know these day’s. Great work MLT TEAM!

  156. Doug Collins (verified owner)

I have followed Mona and Lisa almost since they started out, and they have improved with every release. Their vocals and harmony are getting rock solid😄 Not that it wasn’t solid before, but the maturity in their voices has given them a fuller sound. Shows real commitment to the craft. I really enjoy their cover songs, and hope it will always be part of what they do, but their original work is giving their sound more kepth. It is great to see what they have accomplished. They have always been strong instrumentalists, but their technique is changing to give them more options with their choices.

  157. Timothy Gore (verified owner)

I’m always pleased with what MLT puts out. I like that they are able to come out with their own music and don’t rely on the music of others. What is also good about the music that MLT puts out is that they control what goes on an album and not some fat cat controls it. Fat cats don’t always put the song that are the greatest and they pick which songs should be out front when there is a better song sitting there and getting overlooked. I liked that I got the CD the same day they sent the digital download. I wish I could have bought more but it always seems these hit me at the wrong time. Thank you, Mona & Lisa.

I’m not one to “wax lyrical”. First impression of new album was yeh ok. I’ll try it again later. By 3rd listen I was hooked. Nothing even close to a dud track. You girls get better and better. Thank you very much 😃

Here goes my review of WHY!? CD …

First off… WHOA, just Frikkin In Utter Awe of this latest MLT Originality of a Creative Masterpiece !!!!!
For the time of when it was conjured in the minds, to the whole process and pace at which it was all put forthwards to come into full realization, Musically, Creatively, etc.
The Music Directional Winds of Creativity Depths were blown in many directions, clearly showcased here in this Gem of a CD, while each song offers its own special merits .

Now to focus on what is valued most…. The Songs themselves :

#1–MAKE SHOW ~ Here’s an interesting display of instrumentation, vocals, lyrics that all effectively intertwines and brings forth quite an effort that riccochets, resonates, and has your attention from the get-go, a firecracker intensity.

#2–I BOUGHT MYSELF A POLITICIAN ~ Here’s a Quirky, Amusing take of a song that appeals, amplifies, its meaning in only the way MLT Best Knows How , and has you humming, singing along , who knew politics can be taken on an entertaining, whimsical yet realistic ride , leaving you wanting to more to explore, etc .

#3–JANITOR JOE~ The Cosmic Kind of Outta This World Vibe this song delivers is one of enjoyment and enchantment, again, offering a direction musically that’s different but yet capturing a sense of relatedness which all can connect with in some capacity, a fun listen.

#4–QUESTIONABLE~Perfect little humorous music nugget gem on a topic , at some point in our lives we’ve all encountered upon , only the difference here being, when MLT puts their sense of humour spin on it, takes it to a whole new level…you almost or may /may not feel sorry for the ones rejected in the lyrics ….lol…
This is a cute Quirky , fun, song that you gotta laugh at when listening , taking the concept of it onward to a path comedic wise all of its own .

#5–DESTINATION SUNRISE~ Now this song, in particular , really stands out, from the instrumentation perspective, Whoa Nelly !? , Truly. , the Intensity, Delivery, Velocity of the whole shebang takes one for a frikkin Music Ride that you want to stay on non stop, you can’t sit still on this one, nope….

#6–SUMMER RAIN~ Ahhhhh… when the Harmonies are at full peak, magic accelerates, something just takes hold, you happily go along, entranced by the enchantment this offers, one gets emotional, strikes a chord, Tranquility comes to mind here on this …. when a more simple, slower pacing song has that ability and affect/effect to take one on a mindful journey of sorts .

#7–SONGBIRD~ A soothing piece in which , familiar like with SUMMER RAIN , takes on a life of its own, in a gentle way tgat caresses the Mind and Soul, resonating a vibe that eminates deeply , peaceful, calming .

#8–JUMP SHIP~This song, a completely new territory in music scope for MLT, Poignant, Profound, a direction unlike previous MLT songs, full of character, the ambience flavoring of it , eerily hauntingly engaging. It certainly is Bonafide grasps you, takes hold, gravitating where you could almost , if not visualize yourself along within the whirlwind experience musically this explores the realms of .

#9–ANY OTHER DAY~Once again, one can’t help but Smile, get enjoyment of listening, perhaps toe tapping, singing along, dancing , etc. MLT’s ability to strike a music chord within us, it’s mind blowing, really, this here, demonstrates just that and more.

#10–IF YOU RAISE YOUR HEAD~ Another fine HumdingerDandy of Originality taken up a notch of sorts , that upon listening from get go, has your undivided attention, gets you going, awakens you such musical Bliss acceleration here , no doubt about it, to the core it’s a score .

#11–WHY?~ Of course , the Main Title Track …
What a Full Throttle Onslaught of Music Integrity ingrained here in this , packs a punch . The Music Firecracker that was lit and just burst into Creative Awe Splendour , in full fledged magnitude .

#12–PRETTY LITTLE THING ~ Awwww… what a sweet homage to /for an unexpected arrival of sorts when an abandoned gosling was brought into the family’s existence by chance/luck/fate , and the impact it/she had while in their care, then onwards to another place, now free to be on its own, fully grown, if ever one could cultivate a truly Organic Original song, literally , this one defines, sets the standard, tone, revelavancy. An absolute cute, adoring, quaint, heartfelt effort that pulls at heartstrings , indeed .

Overall, this latest Original MLT Album/CD ” WHY? ” has already, succeeded its predecessors by a Longshot. It went into realms of diversity musically perhaps new to MLT , etc to delve, explore with, for but with an an excitement, calibre unleashed like never before yet maintaining the distinctive familiarity that Unequivocally sets them apart, unlike anyone else, that fans of theirs have come to know , and new fans to discover in awe and wonder in their minds — Where The Heck Have I Been !?” , to have now discovered MLT, and I’m sure this Album/CD of WHY?has now opened that discovery door even wider. To/For me, their music is generational, open for interpretation, Gives off Uplifting Positivity, Poignancy, Profoundness, Humou Vibes, etc …

Their Continued Efforts & Abilities Creatively especially in today’s music landscape, to stand out, on their own terms, to make their music voices heard, their MusicLife OdysseyQuest Known, independently , they have proven themselves worthy of this time and again, and will continue to Bkessfully Bestow Upon All , their Gift, that Resonates, Eminates, etc .

Why? is over heating my CD player! I have played this masterpiece at least a dozen times now and it just keeps getting better. Everyone of the songs is memorable (no filler) and the production values are outstanding. Make Show and Why? top my list of the most played by me at this point but that’s only because there are only so many hours in a day. Mona and Lisa…your music puts a smile on my face and gratefulness in my heart. Grateful because your music makes me feel…well…Great!!

WHY? is out of this world! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been listening non-stop, back to back for a while now. Every single song has a beautiful and memorable melody, with wonderful and witty lyrics. The music from the sixties were marked by the variety of styles. This album brings nothing but the best of that excellent time for music.
The guitars are sharp, you’d expect there had been a dozen different top studio guitarists hired for the recordings. The bass plays it’s part perfectly, never forgetting its function but being the accent flurries and counterpoint to carry the songs as well. The drums mark the diversity from swing to rock to every rhythm as each song needs to keep your feet tapping. The harmonies are the cherry on top and of course heavenly, they’d make the Mama’s and the Papa’s blush. The quality and mastering of the recordings remind me of AIR Studios in London.
Personally, one of the best albums of all time.

  163. Christopher (verified owner)

Simply stated, a wonderful performance. The growth of you both as musicians and as individuals clearly is evident throughout the album. The songs on “WHY?” would not be on “When We’re Together” nor on “Orange”. Your lyrics captured the difficulties of society today and of topics that are part of your everyday lives.

Currently, “Make Show” is my favorite song because it clearly captures your views towards the mainstream record industry. It shows the awareness and the fortitude that you are showing by doing things your way. Keep it going, because your way is the best way. Remember, the MLT Club has your back.

The packaging was done just right and everything arrived safely and in pristine shape. Thank you again for everything that you do. Your music and your attention to the MLT Club members is most appreciated.

Oh my I have so many things to say about this great Album Why? I am going to put them in one at a time. And for me Pretty Little Thing reminds me of Her Majesty off the Abby Road Album. What a great song to end the album with! Short and sweet and we all know who it is about and that makes the song so much better! Again who ever put these songs in order on the album did a great job, going from Make Show to Pretty Little Thing is perfect and the journey of the songs in between is heaven to me. What talent Mona and Lisa have in putting their song writing talents to the fore front. I am with Jung, they are my hero’s and long live Rock and Roll and god bless the Mona Lisa Twins and thank god each day that I am privllaged to ride along on their journey.

MonaLisa Twins album “Why?” Full Review, long version.

    Introduction
The album “Why?” has been in essence a few years in the making, and Mona and Lisa have poured their heart and soul into it! What we have is one remarkable inspired album that for me is like an emotional adventure from beginning to end, in the realm of a Beethoven symphony, with 12 amazing movements that leave you breathless, and coming back for more.

The music is innovative, refreshing, unique, and a style all their own. Mona and Lisa took their love and passion for the 60s music, their amazing harmonies and vocal prowess and musicianship to create songs of immense beauty, complexity, breathtaking instrumentation, and mesmerizing melodies and musical effects. There is so much diversity in the album from song to song, from a deep mesmerizing “Why” to a heartwarming “Pretty Little Thing”. There is an element of a brooding dark reality to bright joyful love, and everything in between that the human experience encompasses. The music touches me deep inside and evokes so much feeling endlessly, it makes me feel ALIVE! It fills me with emotions of wonder and awe, beauty and joy! It makes you feel the passion of true love, the longing, triumph, and letting go. Each song has so much substance and meaning, expressing truths and what we all feel and want, but in the most musically eloquent and powerful way. The album really makes me passionately feel the WHY?, like moments in my own life when something unfair or senseless happens and I cry WHY????? I love what Mona and Lisa stand for, and they fight our fight through their music to make the world a better place. They are my heroes.

    Make Show
Right from the beginning Make Show sounds so complex with a refreshing new sound and style, that sets the pace of the entire album. The song is so meaningful expressing how artists, if they want the backing of the big music labels too often have to sell their souls and creative/artistic integrity.

The drums and guitar work is magical. That guitar chord progression is striking and hypnotic I can’t get enough of it, and the vocals and harmonies are complex, dynamic and alluring, and the howling guitar effects are awesome. There is a party like background atmosphere around midway that really sets a fair like circus mood, and then the vocals towards the end goes on continuously without a break that has a striking effect highlighting a feel of the insanity present in the music industry. There is so much going on in the song, it is brilliant song writing. It is a really new cutting edge sound, I love and the music remains in my head long after it ends.

    I Bought Myself A Politician
I Bought Myself A Politician is a song about corruption and deception in politics. There are so many brilliant musical effects throughout the album that stand out, and in I Bought Myself A Politician, the rhythmic pulsating beat that the drums and bass guitar echo in unison, like a squeeze box, is so appealing, my body rocks along to the beat. In Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, in the 2nd movement, the whole violin section beats in rhythmic unison that captivates with the same kind of effect, and that kind of genius is in MLT’s compositions. Just floors me, they’ve achieved that level of master music composition.

The lyrics are brilliant, humorous and smart. Certainly rings true to the political state of affairs in many places around the world.
The superb guitar work keeps building up and pulls you along irresistibly, and the singing and harmonies are absolutely delightful as it pulls and captivates, it all feels so wonderful!

    Janitor Joe
“Where did you go Janitor, Janitor Joe”. There is a wonderful feel to Janitor Joe that lifts the spirit away into the universe. It evokes feelings of wanting to escape the bondages of life holding you down to feel the freedom at last.
The song is so imaginative with wonderful story telling and vocal melodies that are absolutely lovely, I keep humming it in my head after the song is over. Janitor Joe is magical on so many levels, superb vocals, melodic guitar sounds, and dreamy flutes!
The melody and vocals are wonderfully infectious. I want to be Janitor Joe when I grow up.

    Questionable
Questionable is a most charming song about the passionate journey we all encounter in life to seek that perfect soul mate. I adore this song and video, the melody is wonderfully catchy and charming, the lyrics are funny and intriguing. The singing and harmonies are sweet and magically tugs at those heart strings deep down. It lifts your spirit, such a charming love song! Towards the end of the song when the chorus isolates down to just Mona and Lisa’s vocals alone driving the melody, the emotions really pop! There are great effects like that going on throughout this song and the entire album that enhance the wonderful musical experience. Questionable is a masterpiece in song writing and expression. Absolutely love it.

    Destination Sunrise
Destination Sunrise, is about “heading out to make dreams…”, but there is an underlying message and synopsis on the environment humanity is poisoning, “early sunrays are melting the ice…”. It is the quintessential California sound for the 21st century! The guitar work is brilliant from the outset and throughout with that good ole rock and roll feel and soothing howling guitar sounds, and the gorgeous harmonies evokes the passion and longing for freedom and a more beautiful, warm and sunny destination. They don’t make amazing rock and roll songs like this anymore, with superb guitar work and incredible harmonies, thank you Mona and Lisa, you are true guitar heroes.

    Summer Rain
“Summer Rain” is absolutely charming and beautiful that on the surface expresses the beautiful refreshing feel of a summer rain on a dry hot day, but underneath there is also much depth and meaning about how people need to learn to get along, “..And show us how to get along”. What perfection.

Summer Rain starts off with the most wonderful guitar sounds that grabs you emotionally right away, and sets the elegant and soothing mood of the entire song. The singing raises your spirits. Love the easy going feel and the lyrics are beautiful. The song and beautiful harmonies take you to another wonderful place, the gentle guitar work caresses the mind and soul, magical! Love how the song makes you feel.

There is definitely some great masterful music creative effects going on in this song throughout from beginning to end. For example the ending, with each phrase, “Summer rain, come down to reign again..”, “summer rain, rain down to ease the pain”, “summer rain, you feed the flowers in our hearts”, they lift your spirit up higher and higher and higher each repeating time, and then ends with a tingling” ..in our har-har-har- hearts!” that catapults and leaves your spirit floating up high in the sky as the song ends. Brilliant song writing, such beautiful and joyful effects.

    Songbird
Songbird is an absolute work of art. It’s poetry expressing such a beautiful message about everything that is precious along life’s journey, and a profound message that in the end love is all you are left with to embrace.

The song has an emotion grabbing melody, and the beautiful singing and harmonies continue to catapult you into an emotional journey through the song, and the mid-point harpsichord run is like a sudden emotional explosion that elevates you to another level. Such beauty and grace, it’s breathtaking.

The song fills you with joy, sadness, and a peaceful and graceful resolution by the end. The lyrics are so poetic. It is a masterpiece! There is so much passion and longing in the music; such brilliant song writing.

In the video, I love when Lisa let’s go of the red balloon and it soars away onto another adventure. It reminds me that part of loving is being able to let go.

    Jump Ship
Jump Ship is addictive! So many wonderful musical effects, a real creative masterpiece on so many levels, calling out what is wrong in the world these troubling times with the deception and corruption, the truth that is hidden, that affects us all.

Love all the metaphors in the lyrics. It takes courage to dive into the deep unknown for necessary change, “…jump ship, the big nice cold dip, though it might hurt a bit, it’s nice and warm on deck, but staying here won’t save your neck!!!!” It’s a song to inspire you to action.

The unsettling dissonance the song evokes is so clever and powerful. The singing is incredibly colourful and dynamic, the chorus is so powerful and captivating, the vocal effects just grabs me with the metaphorical message, “jump ship…” The song writing throughout is brilliant. Mona and Lisa are pushing the envelope here in a new refreshing music style all their own, taking all the best of rock and roll of the past and adding their own unique powerful and beautiful vocals and harmonies in Jump Ship that has an amazing mysterious and mesmerizing feel that gets inside you, and doesn’t want to leave. It is magic what they can do with music. It is hypnotic in the most wonderful way. With every new song, the MonaLisa Twins creative musical powerhouse never ceases to impress. This song proves again what amazing artists Mona and Lisa have developed into.

    Any Other Day
“Any Other Day” transports me to such a wonderful place, that I don’t want to leave! It pulls at my heartstrings, such an absolutely timeless and beautiful song! Those lyrics raises goose bumps. Genius song writing.
It perfectly captures that incredible special feeling when you find that perfect someone meant for you, and what is so remarkable is how Mona and Lisa captured that incredible feeling and expressed it so beautifully and perfectly in a song. That is magic, and I think the highest achievement in music! Any Other Day is another masterpiece in song writing expression, absolutely adore this song. One of my big favourites on this album.

    If You Raise Your Head
The guitar work in If You Raise Your Head is phenomenal! It has a bluesy soul feel that grabs you, and then those funky guitar sounds makes you bliss out! Wow! The superb drums and bass line is just lovely, and the vocals and harmonies are so rich and captivating. The lyrics are inspiring with a message about how humanity should open its eyes and see what is really happening in the world, if you raise your head!

    Why?
A big favourite for me on the album. I love every song in the album, and especially the song “Why”, with its sublime harmonies and breathtaking melody and instrumentation, and there is so much meaning there, about issues threatening humanity, that seems to perpetuate without end as humanity seems to have its head buried in the sand. If anyone ever doubted Mona and Lisa are song writing genius’s, they just need to listen to the song WHY?

Mona and Lisa’s harmonies have an almost operatic and hauntingly beautiful feel, and it pulls you in with amazing passion and longing, and when the strings (cello/violin) come in, it amplifies the passion and longing even more, and it is all absolutely mesmerizing. Every time you hear Mona and Lisa exclaim “WHY?!!!”, an emotional wave hits you, and you can’t help but shudder inside with passion, under scoring “Why” can’t humanity see what is happening and change! Musically “Why” captures the best of rock and classical with those beautiful harmonies layered on top of the elegant instrumentation, and sets you on a complex symphonic emotional ride, that keeps on building and building to a climactic end, with an amazing final striking chord leaving you breathless, wanting more and wishing the song would never end.

I love the courageous artists Mona and Lisa have become. They aren’t afraid to express their thoughts and what they feel is right, in the conduit of their superb musical talent and song writing genius. When you have a gifted talent that can touch and move people, isn’t it a virtue to use it to make the world a better place? Through their music and art they profoundly touch and move people to make the world a better place. They are writing songs with amazing refinement, depth, richness, and emotional impact. WHY? Is truly an amazing work of art, a masterpiece, Mona and Lisa impress me endlessly with every new project.

    Pretty Little Thing
“Pretty Little Thing” is a charming song about an abandoned Canada Goose gosling named Neve, that Mona and Lisa rescued and lovingly raised for a few weeks and returned to the wild, giving little Neve a new chance at life to grow into a magnificent goose. Love the contrast at the end of the album, where the music of “Why” takes you up into an incredible powerful climax, and then you hear Neve! Your heart melts to the sweetness of “Pretty Little Thing”. Just absolutely brilliant album, the way everything fits together so perfectly. “Pretty Little Thing”, in context to these times reminds us what really matters, a sweet little baby goose, so innocent and fragile, so full of love, needs protecting and saving. Hearing little Neve chirping and singing melts your heart, it gets right down to the child in all of us, and perhaps underscores the theme and message of the album, this planet and humanity is worth saving from the path of destruction it’s on.
Pretty Little Thing fits in perfectly with the flow of the album, and gives it an additional dimension. It’s like a thematic counterpoint that is such an awesome way to end the album. Everything just all fits together so well.

    Conclusion:
In conclusion, the album “Why” is a work of art masterpiece that you never tire of listening to, with absolute beauty, awe, and joy throughout that keeps drawing you back. You get something new out of it every time, an inspiration, a feeling, insight.  Mona and Lisa’s musical adventure is in high gear looking forward to the future, innovating and pioneering music in the tradition of the Beatles and all the great music legends of the 60s and 70s they admire. They take all the best aspects of the 60s and 70s legendary music and add their own unique, refreshing, innovative, and refined style to create amazing inspired music. Mona and Lisa are the future of Rock and Roll.

Your angelic harmonies one day captured my heart and lifted me out of life’s grind. I checked out your music videos more and I found the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard, and haven’t looked back. The covers bring the classics back to life, often better than the originals, and your own originals are so inspired, and meaningful, they enrich my life, I get something new that moves me every time I listen to them. Your years of love and dedication to your music, admiration of the Beatles and great rock legends have made you amazing musicians, singer song writers, and artists in the same calibre as the legends you look up to, in a fresh modern style. Your masterpiece album “Why?”, and the amazing songs on them like I Bought Myself a Politician, Questionable, Songbird, Jump Ship, Any Other Day, and Why? Just to name a few are testaments to that. They are so beautiful, with breathtaking harmonies and instrumentation that you’ve taken to another plateau towering above all others out there today. Each song on the album are crafted with incredible melodies, lyrics, and feeling that evoke powerful emotions, full of joy, grit, and meaning for the times. They make you think, why? They give me goosebumps, and moves my soul deeply, giving me tears of joy.

Absolutely love your music and your artistry and everything you do.

The cover art would look fantastic on a vinyl cover. Are the any plans to release a vinyl of your third album? The physical CD is kind of useless to me as neither does my laptop include a CD drive, nor do I have a physical CD player to play them

    • Michaela

      Hi Kenneth,
Yes, we finished the vinyl artwork today and everything will go into production this week. It will take a few months though until we will be able to offer it in our shop. The waiting list is long …
In the meantime please use the album download files that came together with the physical CD (via email sent on October 29) or stream the album from the Jukebox or this page.
      Many thanks!

My order is in! As you may well be aware, The Beatles’ Revolver box set comes out the day before your album. Going to be a whole lotta listening to do that weekend!
